Interim Finance Manager
Location: Downtown Toronto (Hybrid - 2-3 days onsite)
Length: 4-5 months (possibility of extension)
Pay Rate: $100-$125/hr (for Sole Proprietor or Incorporated individuals)
Our client, an innovative and fast-growing financial services organization, is seeking a Finance Manager to take ownership of the accounting and treasury operations across all group entities. This role will also oversee the reconciliation of product-specific ledgers (accounts, credit cards, and loans) to ensure the company meets its customer and regulatory obligations.
The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, brings a deep understanding of financial services/fintech operations, and has strong technical accounting expertise.
About the Role
The Interim Finance Manager will have exposure to a variety of finance, accounting, reporting, and treasury functions, while also supporting compliance and internal audit needs. You’ll manage the day-to-day accounting and treasury operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and assist with regulatory compliance. You’ll also contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis, while helping to shape financial policies and procedures that support the growth of the organization.
What You'll Be Doing:
Accounting Management
- Oversee all aspects of day-to-day accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Support accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close for consolidated and standalone entities.
- Deliver complete, accurate, and timely accounting, reporting, and analysis.
- Assist in preparing financial and KPI reporting for investors and key stakeholders.
Treasury
- Manage daily treasury activities, ensuring all transactions are actioned, recorded, and reconciled promptly.
- Lead product reconciliations, including customer cash accounts and lending accounts.
- Action daily treasury operations on schedule.
- Assist in preparing and filing daily, monthly, and annual reports required by financial partners.
Financial Reporting
- Support the external audit process, providing data, reporting, and assistance with resolving audit findings.
- Coordinate and manage external audits to ensure compliance and timely completion.
- Help improve internal cross-functional management reporting.
- Support risk and compliance functions to ensure regulatory responsibilities are met.
- Monitor performance against budgets, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights.
Cross-Functional Support
- Contribute to budgets, forecasts, financial models, and scenario analysis.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Support Operations and Sales with customer-related transaction queries.
- Assist with operational tasks such as credit evaluation, compliance reviews, and account investigations.
What You'll Bring:
- CPA designation (or equivalent).
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within financial services.
- Proficiency in accounting software/ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
- Basic knowledge of SQL for data queries.
- Strong financial acumen, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Impeccable attention to detail and accuracy.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage ambiguity.
Bonus Points
- Prior fintech experience.
- Knowledge of fintech operations, including product-ledger reconciliations.
