Position Type: New Role

About the Opportunity

Our client is a private equity-backed manufacturer producing sustainable consumer products from recycled materials, operating multiple plants across Canada, the US, and Europe with revenue in the $170–200M range. The finance function is in an active build phase: the team is standing up a modern FP&A capability, refining NetSuite module by module, and running a full manufacturing costing review alongside external consultants.

This interim role exists to accelerate that build. It sits between a hands-on analyst team and senior finance leadership, owning the financial lens on a highly integrated manufacturing operation. You'll take ambiguous operational issues — negative inventory, BOM inaccuracies, unabsorbed costs, cancelled POs — and translate them into clear financial impact, then drive resolution across the organization rather than applying a band-aid.

Reporting directly to the Director of FP&A, you'll own budgeting, forecasting, manufacturing cost analysis, and profitability reporting while coaching two analysts (one operations-focused, one sales-focused) who bring strong domain knowledge but not a formal accounting foundation. This is a chance to define what best-in-class FP&A looks like in a business that's genuinely building it — with visibility to executive leadership and PE ownership from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate operational issues (BOM errors, negative inventory, run-time discrepancies, cancelled POs) into their P&L and balance sheet impact, and prioritize resolution by financial materiality
  • Drive process improvements cross-functionally — identifying root causes, engaging the right stakeholders, and seeing changes through to completion
  • Own the budgeting and forecasting process, including the annual operating budget (kicking off September) and a move toward continuous forecasting
  • Lead profitability analysis by SKU, customer, and category, including price-volume-mix analysis across multiple entities (Canada, US, Poland, Quebec)
  • Build out costing for new business RFPs and support pricing recommendations for the commercial team
  • Perform CapEx and ROI assessments on new tooling and manufacturing improvements
  • Support the ongoing manufacturing costing review — validating BOM absorption, updating standard costs, and maintaining master data
  • Prepare monthly performance reporting for PE ownership, quarterly board materials, and integrate into the emerging S&OP process
  • Direct Power BI reporting development toward a single-source-of-truth "one number" system, validating existing reports and recommending new dashboards with the IT/BI team
  • Coach and guide two FP&A analysts, teaching structured approaches to inventory obsolescence reviews, aging analysis, and financial problem-solving

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of FP&A experience, with emphasis on the plus, including at least 3–4 years of deep manufacturing exposure
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations from a finance lens — building and reviewing BOMs, understanding line efficiencies, standard costing, and absorption
  • CPA or CA designation — the accounting foundation is essential to this role, given the gap it fills between the analyst team and leadership
  • Proven ability to connect operational data to financial outcomes and communicate impact at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated gravitas and influencing skills — able to message critical issues to senior leadership and drive accountability cross-functionally
  • Comfortable operating in a hybrid "doer and director" capacity — hands-on where needed, guiding the analyst team elsewhere
  • A builder's mindset: refining and elevating existing processes rather than maintaining a finished function

Nice to Have

  • Hands-on NetSuite experience
  • Power BI dashboard development or BI reporting direction
  • Multi-entity and multi-currency manufacturing environments
  • Experience in a PE-owned business with monthly ownership reporting
  • Familiarity with S&OP processes and Lean manufacturing principles
