Corporate Accountant, Contract
Employment Type: Contract - 12 months
Location: Mississauga - in office 2days/week
Rate: $45–55/hr
Industry: Healthcare / Medical Distribution
Position Type: Existing Vacancy
About the Opportunity
Our client is looking for an experienced Corporate Accountant to step into a critical maternity leave cover and support a smooth transition on their finance team. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, you will play a key role in driving month-end close, financial reporting, cash flow management, and tax-related activities for a growing healthcare distribution business.
This is a hands-on role within a lean team, where you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with a long-tenured incumbent (10+ years with the company) through March and April to ensure strong knowledge transfer. You’ll gain exposure across the full finance cycle, including elements of budgeting, forecasting, and light FP&A, while working in a hybrid model with in-office collaboration on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It’s an ideal opportunity for a strong accountant who enjoys end-to-end ownership in a smaller, fast-moving organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute the month-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and related management reports
- Monitor daily banking activities and support short-term cash management
- Assist in cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
- Prepare and file sales tax-related returns and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
- Compile and organize data required for tax returns, working with external advisors as needed
- Support budgeting and forecasting cycles, including variance analysis and commentary
- Contribute to light FP&A activities to help explain results and support decision-making
- Extract, manipulate, and analyze data using Microsoft Excel to support reporting and analysis
- Utilize Microsoft AX to process and reconcile financial transactions
- Collaborate closely with the Corporate Controller and the outgoing incumbent to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities
- Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, logistics, distribution) to understand business drivers and their financial impact
What You Bring
- Solid experience as a Corporate Accountant, Senior Accountant, or similar role with strong ownership of month-end close and reporting
- Proven track record handling full-cycle accounting in a smaller or lean finance team environment
- Strong month-end close skills, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements
- Demonstrated experience with banking monitoring and supporting cash flow forecasting
- Hands-on experience with sales tax compliance and preparing data for corporate tax filings
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to extract, manipulate, and analyze large data sets
- Experience working with Microsoft AX (or a similar mid-market ERP)
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, and basic FP&A activities
- Background in industries such as distribution, logistics, or manufacturing is strongly preferred; healthcare / capital and consumables product experience is an asset
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid setting
- Comfortable reporting directly to a senior finance leader and partnering with an incumbent during a transition period
