Job Description: Manager, Corporate Accounting

Location: Hybrid (Toronto HQ)

Reports To: Senior Director, Assistant Corporate Controller

Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000 CAD

About Our Client

Our client is a global leader in the entertainment technology sector, publicly listed on the NYSE. They are currently restructuring their finance team to support internal growth and are seeking a hands-on Manager to serve as the operational backbone of the Corporate Accounting department.

About the Role

This is not a "review-only" role. We are looking for a "doer" who can roll up their sleeves, tackle complex reconciliations, and lead a team through a strict 5-business-day close cycle. This position is critical to the team’s succession plan: by taking ownership of the day-to-day operational accounting, you will enable the internal promotion of key team members while stabilizing a busy department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Directly manage and mentor a team of ~4 staff (Senior Financial Analysts & Financial Analysts). Act as a buffer for the team, providing guidance and support to improve morale and retention.
  • Operational Execution: Take immediate ownership of the core accounting cycle, including balance sheet reconciliations, journal entry approvals, and variance analysis.
  • Month-End Close: Lead the team to successfully execute a strict 5-business-day month-end close schedule.
  • Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks in manual processes. The environment relies heavily on Excel workarounds and legacy systems; you will be expected to bring order to the chaos rather than waiting for perfect data.
  • Financial Reporting: Review and manage the preparation of financial statements for owned and operated entities, ensuring accuracy under US GAAP.
  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audit requests, managing the "Provided by Client" (PBC) lists and ensuring timely submission of evidence.

The Successful Candidate

We are specifically looking for a leader who has "grit" and critical thinking skills. We value experience from mid-tier firms where you have had to navigate "messy" clients and imperfect data.

Must Haves:

  • Designation: CPA/CA designation.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of total accounting experience.
  • Management: Minimum 3 years of experience in a managerial role with direct reports.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills are non-negotiable (pivot tables, complex formulas) to handle manual workarounds.
  • Close Experience: Proven ability to manage a tight month-end deadline.

Preferred Profile:

  • Firm Background: Strong preference for candidates with a foundation in mid-tier public accounting firms (e.g., MNP, BDO, Grant Thornton) who have transitioned into industry.
  • Mindset: A problem solver who doesn't need everything tied in a "pretty bow" to function. You must be comfortable digging into the details to fix issues rather than just delegating them.

Why Join Now?

  • Immediate Impact: You will play a critical role in relieving a stretched team, making an immediate difference in the success of the department.
  • Complex Environment: Gain experience in a complex, dual-listed public company environment with diverse revenue streams.

We do appreciate all interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
