Location: Toronto (3 days onsite)
Salary range: $110,000-120,000
About the Role
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Payroll Manager to join our client in the tech space. Operating across North America, this role offers a unique opportunity to lead payroll operations. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining strict compliance with tax regulations, labor laws, and company policies across complex, multi-jurisdictional environments.
What You'll Be Doing:
- End-to-End Oversight: Take full ownership of the end-to-end payroll cycle for all US and Canadian salaried, hourly, and contract employees.
- Compliance Leadership: Ensure rigorous ongoing compliance with federal, provincial, and multi-state tax regulations, labor laws, and collective agreements.
- Year-End Execution: Lead comprehensive Year-End processes for both countries, including T-4 and W-2 balancing, reconciliations, and multi-state filings.
- Reporting & Audit: Prepare detailed payroll reporting and documentation to support Finance during month-end close and manage both internal and external audits.
- Cross-Border Expertise: Manage cross-border nuances, including ROE processing and addressing inquiries from regulatory bodies like Service Canada and the IRS.
Who You Are
- Experience: 5-7+ years of progressive payroll experience, with a proven track record of owning the entire payroll function in high-volume, multi-jurisdictional environments.
- Education: Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Certification: Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification is required ; a Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or US equivalent (CPP) is a strong asset.
- Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of modern payroll platforms (Ceridian Dayforce, or ADP WFN) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Mindset: A proactive problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive financial and employee data.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with HR and Finance teams.
