Job Title: Plant Controller

Location: Hamilton

Salary range: $130,000-145,000


Job Summary:

The Plant Controller will serve as a key business partner to site leadership, driving financial performance, operational efficiency, and effective cost management across the facility. This role is responsible for overseeing plant finance activities including forecasting, reporting, costing, inventory oversight, capital spending analysis, and financial governance, while supporting strategic and operational decision-making.


Responsibilities:

• Partner with plant leadership to manage forecasting, budgeting, and financial performance tracking activities, ensuring alignment with operational and financial targets.

• Act as a trusted advisor to operations teams by delivering financial insights and analytical support to assist with daily business decisions.

• Review and interpret monthly operating results, monitor trends and variances, and provide meaningful recommendations to improve financial and operational performance.

• Maintain and oversee site costing methodologies, including annual updates to labour assumptions, production inputs, and material standards.

• Monitor the integrity and timeliness of financial reporting and ensure all reporting requirements are completed accurately.

• Work closely with corporate finance partners on capital planning initiatives, including financial assessment and justification of proposed investments.

• Evaluate the financial impact of product mix changes, operational initiatives, and new manufacturing programs.

• Oversee working capital performance by managing inventory levels, production-related spending, and site cash utilization.

• Contribute to strategic planning initiatives through financial modeling, scenario analysis, and long-range forecasting support.

• Establish and strengthen financial controls, policies, and compliance practices to support audit readiness and operational accountability.

• Participate in process automation and systems improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency within the manufacturing environment.

• Promote a collaborative and team-oriented culture that encourages continuous learning, accountability, and professional growth.


Requirements:

• Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related discipline.

• CPA designation or an equivalent blend of education and practical finance experience.

• Progressive finance experience with exposure to manufacturing operations, including prior experience in a plant finance, operations finance, or site controllership capacity.

• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate financial concepts effectively to both finance and non-finance teams.

• Advanced analytical and critical thinking capabilities, with experience translating operational and financial data into actionable business insights.

• Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing finance principles, including inventory accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, and capital project evaluation.

• Demonstrated focus on operational improvement, process optimization, and driving efficiencies within a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build effective working relationships across plant operations, finance, and leadership teams.

• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to understand operational workflows and identify opportunities for process and reporting improvements.

• Knowledge of financial compliance practices, internal controls, and governance standards within a manufacturing setting.
