About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a Payroll Analyst (Payroll Consultant) to step in and support a large, complex payroll environment during a period of reduced team capacity. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you’ll join a payroll team supported by payroll clerks and partner closely with a local HR group in Montreal. This opportunity is ideal for a payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership of a key payroll population—specifically Quebec payroll—and working in a fast-paced, unionized environment with multiple agreements, hourly employees, and timecard-driven pay. The role is hybrid in Brampton (Mon–Thurs onsite, Fridays WFH) and will focus on ensuring accurate, timely bi-weekly processing while helping resolve pay discrepancies and navigating manual calculations related to overtime and premium rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead bi-weekly payroll processing for the Quebec employee population (approx. 1,700 employees; primarily hourly)
  • Review and process timecards submitted on Mondays and ensure completeness and accuracy prior to payroll runs
  • Support payroll administration within a unionized environment, ensuring payroll practices align with three collective agreements in Montreal
  • Partner with the local HR team in Montreal to support and maintain adherence to collective agreement requirements
  • Participate in bi-weekly payroll meetings to review and resolve pay-related discrepancies
  • Perform Excel-based calculations and analysis, including work requiring VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
  • Support a multi-jurisdiction payroll environment (multi-province and multi-country) as needed during peak periods
  • Assist in managing manual adjustments related to overtime and premium rate calculations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts as the payroll system continues to be optimized (UKG environment)

What You Bring

  • Experience running full-cycle payroll in Quebec
  • Proven payroll experience in a unionized environment supporting collective agreements
  • Strong Excel capability, including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during pay runs, as required
  • French (bilingual) is a strong asset due to coordination with Montreal-based stakeholders (noting the local HR team is bilingual)
  • Experience with UKG is considered an asset
  • Comfortable working in a payroll environment that includes hourly and salaried employees and requires manual calculations/adjustments
