OUR CLIENT:

THE ROLE:


The BRC is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Head of Food Policy, accountable for delivering a clear, credible and impactful food policy agenda for the food retail industry. Working closely with the Corporate Affairs Director, the wider BRC team and BRC members this role will combine deep policy expertise and working collaboratively across policy, public affairs, and media to maximise impact, deliver member value and support delivery of the BRC’s business plan.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


As BRC Head of Food Policy, you will be responsible for:


  1. External Influence and representation; Act as a senior, credible representative of the retail food industry with government officials, advisors, regulators, NGOs and other stakeholders.
  2. Lead the food policy agenda; Deliver a proactive policy agenda and respond constructively to government policy proposals across the food policy landscape.
  3. Member engagement; Lead stakeholder involvement with the Food Community to deliver value to senior member representatives in policy outcomes and in insight, learning opportunities and market intelligence.
  4. People and organisational leadership; Manage and develop the food policy team of two Policy Advisors, setting clear expectations, supporting progression and building policy capability in line with the BRC’s career framework and with guidance from the Corporate Affairs Director.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:


The ideal role holder will possess:


  • High credibility with members, stakeholders and internal colleagues
  • Deep understanding of food policy, regulation and supply chains within a retail or consumer context
  • Strong experience of policy formulation, advocacy at a senior level and ability to build member consensus in highly competitive sector
  • Proven ability in influencing government, regulatory bodies, and policymakers at senior levels to deliver regulatory change/change government policy
  • Ability to translate complex policy and regulatory issues into clear, compelling and member friendly language, ensuring stakeholder understanding, informed decision making and measurable member value
  • Proven people management capability, including developing people and building effective teams


SALARY AND BENEFITS:


Competitive salary, dependent on experience, with eligibility for annual bonus.
