Position Overview:
We are seeking a results-driven Health Information Management (HIM) Director to lead operations at a 474-bed acute care facility in San Jose, CA. In this high-impact role, you will be responsible for managing and improving all HIM functions, ensuring compliance with health information standards, driving unbilled account resolution, and working closely with internal stakeholders to support exceptional patient care and documentation quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage all day-to-day operations of the facility-based HIM department
- Oversee HIM staff including record reconciliation, release of information, hardcopy record retrieval, and birth/paternity documentation processes
- Lead efforts related to the Horizon Patient Folder (HPF)/McKesson Patient Folder (MPF) systems and Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) implementation
- Ensure accurate and timely management of unbilled accounts, physician queries, and incomplete records
- Collaborate with physicians and department leaders to ensure documentation compliance
- Participate in operational planning, internal control processes, productivity monitoring, and workflow optimization
- Serve as the key HIM contact for cross-functional communication and implementation efforts
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, accreditation standards, and organizational policies
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Health Information Management, or a related field
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification (Required)
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a HIM Director in a large hospital setting (300+ beds preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare information systems and HIM best practices
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with HPF/MPF systems and CAC technologies highly preferred
