Job Description for Engineering Manager


Objective

To lead and manage a high-performing engineering team, drive innovation and growth through product development and process improvements, and deliver exceptional customer satisfaction while ensuring efficient use of resources.

Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership

• Recruit, organize, manage, and supervise junior and senior engineers and technical staff.

• Conduct regular meetings to review project status, backlog, and employee suggestions.

• Train and mentor team members to ensure high performance and innovation.

2. Project Oversight

• Analyze customer requirements and translate them into actionable engineering plans.

• Assign projects, track progress, and ensure all projects meet delivery timelines and quality standards.

• Manage departmental budgets and allocate resources efficiently.

3. Technical Development

• Develop innovative products and improve existing designs using advanced engineering tools (e.g., FMEA, CAD, CFD).

• Implement standard components, and part numbering systems.

• Research trends and adopt technologies that maintain competitive advantages.

4. Process and Quality Improvement

• Lead cost-reduction programs and quality initiatives

• Design components prioritizing quality, innovation, and manufacturability.

5. Collaboration and Communication

• Support sales staff with technical proposals and customer communications.

• Act as an informational resource for both internal teams and external customers.

• Attend trade shows, seminars, and professional meetings to enhance industry knowledge.

Requirements

1. Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (required).

• Advanced degrees (e.g., M.S. in Engineering Management) or equivalent experience are preferred.

2. Experience

• 10+ years in engineering roles, with at least 5 years in a management position.

• Proven track record in product development, manufacturing, and project management.

• Expertise in manufacturing process optimization preferred.

• Expertise in plastics processing preferred.

3. Skills

• Strong leadership and communication abilities.

• Proficiency in CAD software.

• Knowledge of Six-Sigma and other process improvement methodologies.

4. Personal Attributes

• Ability to stay ahead of industry trends and drive innovation.

• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to exceeding expectations.

• Willingness to travel
