Apply for this job

I’m recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a major energy and infrastructure organisation operating at the forefront of the UK’s transmission, renewables and grid connections market.

This is a genuinely high-impact role within a business that isn’t just maintaining critical infrastructure, but actively renewing and reimagining it as part of the UK’s transition to net zero. Whatever stage you’re at in your career, this environment offers clear scope for growth, development and progression, alongside a strong safety-first culture and a collaborative, respectful way of working.

The Business & Environment

The organisation delivers end-to-end energy infrastructure services, spanning electricity transmission and distribution, renewable connections, EV infrastructure, metering and decarbonisation.

Within the Transmission & Renewables division, teams design, build and commission substations up to 400kV, construct and maintain transmission lines, and support the reliable delivery of electricity across the UK. You’ll be joining a business that plays a central role in enabling essential infrastructure while actively contributing to the net-zero agenda.

The Role

Reporting into the Director of Renewable Connections, the Business Development Manager will focus on retaining and growing relationships with existing clients, while also developing new clients and revenue streams within the non-regulated electricity market.

The core market is renewable electricity connections, with additional exposure to adjacent strategic sectors. You’ll work as part of a wider business development and central bidding team, collaborating closely with sales, strategy, and bid functions across the wider energy division.

This is a national role, so a full driving licence and willingness to travel and stay away when required is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and grow strategic client relationships and framework agreements
  • Work closely with the Business Unit Director to understand market growth and agree target opportunities
  • Undertake and present detailed market and client research, with a strong focus on ICP connections and balance-of-plant opportunities
  • Develop a deep understanding of client drivers, funding models and project revenue streams to shape winning tender strategies
  • Build and maintain detailed client plans, including competitor and market intelligence
  • Maintain and update the Salesforce CRM, mapping stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Develop strong relationships across all levels of client organisations, including senior decision-makers
  • Lead and support client meetings, procurement events, workshops and bid presentations
  • Work closely with the central bid team to manage strategic bids and ensure governance processes are followed
  • Contribute to bid / no-bid decisions, win themes, answer plans and technical accuracy within submissions
  • Support pre-qualifications, re-tenders and major infrastructure bids, including bid writing and review

What I’m Looking For

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–10+ years’ experience within the UK electricity sector, ideally non-regulated
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Non-regulated electricity markets
  • DNOs and National Grid
  • ICP and IDNO delivery models
  • Solid technical understanding of the electricity network
  • Experience in account development, bid management or work-winning roles
  • Proven track record contributing to multi-million-pound engineering or infrastructure bids
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms
  • Confident engaging new clients and influencing stakeholders at all levels
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong research, communication and relationship management skills
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel nationwide

What’s On Offer

Alongside the opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure projects, the role comes with a competitive salary, discretionary bonus and a strong benefits package, including enhanced leave, pension, healthcare, EV car scheme and structured development support.

You’ll be joining an organisation that places real emphasis on people, inclusion and long-term career development, with access to recognised training programmes and the chance to shape the future of essential UK infrastructure.
