Instrumentation & Controls Estimator

About the Role

We’re looking for an Instrumentation & Controls Estimator to develop accurate, competitive estimates for industrial automation and I&C projects. This role combines technical expertise, estimating, client interaction, and project coordination, with opportunities to work across industrial, and electrical construction environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop detailed estimates and proposals for instrumentation, controls, and automation projects
  • Review drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, control panel drawings, specifications, and bid documents
  • Conduct job walks and site visits to assess project requirements
  • Prepare pricing for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, instrumentation, control panels, electrical materials, installation, programming, engineering, commissioning, and project management
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
  • Identify and pursue public and private bid opportunities
  • Meet with customers, contractors, and vendors to understand project scope, schedules, and requirements
  • Develop clear scopes of work, clarifications, exclusions, and proposal documentation
  • Coordinate with engineering, programming, panel shop, field, and project management teams
  • Support budgets, change orders, project handoffs, and ongoing project pricing
  • Maintain estimating records, bid summaries, and cost history
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, customer presentations, and project walkthroughs
  • Help improve estimating processes, standards, and tools

What You Bring

  • 3–7 years of experience in estimating, project management, controls engineering, or instrumentation & controls
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Construction Management, or related field preferred
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, SCADA, instrumentation, industrial networking, and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, electrical schematics, control panel drawings, and specifications
  • Familiarity with control panel fabrication and field installation practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines with a high level of accuracy
  • Comfortable working independently and collaborating across teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Estimating software and AutoCAD Electrical experience is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project and client sites
