Position: Controls Engineer

Location: Gloucester

Contract: Permanent | Full-Time

Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 DOE + Travel Allowance

An established and growing engineering company is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join their automation team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Controls Engineer who enjoys working on bespoke machinery, developing control systems, and being involved in projects from concept through to commissioning.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and motion control systems for automated machinery
  • Integrate control systems with distributed I/O and networked architectures
  • Support new machine builds, prototype development, and existing equipment
  • Program and integrate vision systems for inspection and measurement
  • Ensure machinery complies with safety standards and best practices
  • Produce technical documentation for build, testing, and customer handover
  • Provide on-site commissioning, fault finding, and customer support
  • Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and suppliers on project delivery
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and product development initiatives


The Person:

  • Experience working as a Controls Engineer within automation or special-purpose machinery
  • Strong PLC programming experience (Rockwell / Siemens or similar)
  • Knowledge of motion control systems and control architectures
  • Experience with HMI systems and industrial automation software
  • Willingness to travel internationally for commissioning and support
