CNC Machinist

Location: Bristol

Salary: £32,000 - £37,000 per annum

Shift: Permanent Day Shift

THOMAS Professional is recruiting experienced CNC Machinists to join an established precision engineering manufacturer based in Bristol.

We are keen to speak with experienced CNC Turners and CNC Millers who are looking for a permanent day shift opportunity. Candidates with experience at Setter/Operator level are particularly of interest, although applications from strong CNC machinists with additional programming experience are also welcomed. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering business producing high-quality precision components within a modern manufacturing environment.

The Role

Depending on your machining background, responsibilities may include:

  • Setting and operating CNC turning and/or milling machines
  • Working with Fanuc and/or Heidenhain controls
  • Producing precision components from engineering drawings and specifications
  • Setting tooling, fixtures, work offsets and machine datums
  • Selecting and installing appropriate cutting tools and tool holders
  • Monitoring machining processes and making adjustments where required
  • Working to tight tolerances and demanding quality standards
  • Carrying out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
  • Troubleshooting tooling and machining issues
  • Optimising machining processes, speeds and feeds where appropriate
  • Completing relevant production and inspection documentation
  • Supporting continuous improvement within the manufacturing environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are interested in candidates with experience in either CNC Turning or CNC Milling, including:

  • Previous CNC machining experience within an engineering environment
  • Experience setting and operating CNC machinery
  • Knowledge of Fanuc and/or Heidenhain controls
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Good understanding of tolerances and machining processes
  • Experience using measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and plug gauges
  • Good understanding of tooling, workholding and offsets
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

For milling candidates, experience with 3, 4 or 5-axis CNC machines would be advantageous.

For turning candidates, experience setting Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes, including tooling, offsets and machine datums, would be particularly relevant.

CNC programming experience would also be advantageous, although it is not essential for all opportunities.

  • Permanent day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Early finish on Fridays
