CNC Miller Setter/Operator (Night Shift)
Location: Bristol
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum, DOE
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00pm - 6:00am
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
We are recruiting two experienced CNC Miller Setter/Operators to join an established precision engineering and aerospace manufacturing business in Bristol.
We can consider candidates at Advanced Operator or Setter/Operator level, with the salary offered reflecting individual CNC milling, setting and machining experience.
You will set and operate 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines to manufacture complex, high-precision components from a range of materials. The position requires experience with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls and the ability to work accurately from engineering drawings.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines
- Work with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls
- Manufacture complex precision-engineered components
- Produce components from a range of engineering materials
- Complete machine setups, including workpieces, fixtures and cutting tools
- Select and install suitable tooling, tool holders and fixtures
- Set work offsets using probes
- Set offsets manually using wobble bars and DTI clocks
- Make tooling and machine adjustments during production
- Monitor machining operations to maintain accuracy and quality
- Work to engineering drawings, specifications and route cards
- Ensure the correct materials, drawings and production documentation are used
- Produce components within planned setup and cycle times
- Inspect components using precision measuring equipment
- Identify and communicate quality or production issues
- Complete setup sheets, tool lists and production records
- Support operators with setups and tooling where appropriate
- Contribute to 5S and continuous improvement activities
- Follow all health, safety and quality procedures
Skills and Experience Required
- Previous experience operating CNC milling machines
- Experience setting CNC milling machines would be required for the higher salary level
- Experience with 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining
- Knowledge of Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls
- Ability to install workpieces, fixtures and cutting tools
- Experience setting tooling and work offsets
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good understanding of machining tolerances and specifications
- Knowledge of CNC programming languages
- Experience using micrometers, verniers and plug gauges
- Ability to monitor machining processes and make necessary adjustments
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to produce components efficiently and accurately
Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated precision manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
Experience using CMM or Opticline inspection equipment, OEE systems or FourJaw would also be beneficial but is not essential.
