CNC Turner Programmer/Setter (Night Shift)
Location: Bristol
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum, DOE
Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 10:00pm - 6:00am
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
We are recruiting an experienced CNC Turner Programmer/Setter to join an established precision engineering and aerospace manufacturing business in Bristol.
This position requires a skilled CNC Turner who can independently programme, set and operate Fanuc-controlled CNC lathes. You will manufacture high-precision components to engineering drawings while maintaining demanding quality, productivity and safety standards.
Candidates must be fully competent in online programming directly at the machine. Applications from operator-only candidates without programming experience cannot be considered.
Experience with offline programming would be advantageous but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Programme, set and operate Fanuc-controlled CNC turning machines
- Create and edit CNC programmes directly at the machine
- Manufacture precision components to engineering drawings
- Complete full machine setups independently
- Select and install suitable tooling, fixtures and workholding
- Manufacture and modify soft jaws
- Establish machine and component datums
- Complete tool changes and offset adjustments
- Set appropriate speeds, feeds and machining parameters
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling and machining issues
- Optimise cycle times without compromising quality
- Produce components to tight tolerances
- Conduct first-off and in-process inspections
- Use micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and plug gauges
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T
- Complete setup sheets, tool lists and production documentation
- Maintain accurate inspection and production records
- Support continuous improvement across machining processes
- Follow all quality, safety and manufacturing procedures
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner Programmer/Setter
- Competent in online programming directly at the CNC machine
- Strong experience using Fanuc controls
- Ability to independently programme, set and operate CNC lathes
- Experience manufacturing precision-engineered components
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good understanding of GD&T and machining tolerances
- Confident selecting tooling and establishing machine datums
- Experience producing or modifying soft jaws
- Knowledge of speeds, feeds and cycle-time optimisation
- Ability to troubleshoot CNC programmes and tooling issues
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Ability to perform first-off and in-process inspection
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated precision manufacturing environment would be beneficial.
Experience with multi-spindle or multi-turret CNC turning machines, CMM inspection equipment, Opticline systems or offline programming would also be advantageous but is not essential.
