Project Engineer

As Project Engineer you turn plans into executed dirt: you keep the field moving, the owner informed, and the numbers honest so projects finish safe, on schedule, and within budget.

Performance Objectives

  • Own RFIs, submittals, and change documentation so field crews never wait more than 48 hours for an answer.
  • Track quantities, costs, and look-ahead schedules weekly; flag variances early enough to keep the job within ±5% of budget.
  • Coordinate daily with the superintendent, PM, owners, and agencies to resolve constructability and access issues before they idle equipment.
  • Produce accurate as-builts, quantity recaps, and closeout packages that pass first agency/owner review.
  • Support safety and quality walk-downs so the project meets or beats the company's incident and punch-list targets.
  • Help bid and start-up the next job by feeding field lessons and production rates back to estimating.

Environment & Resources

You report to the Project Manager and sit with the field team on active heavy-civil sites across Southern California. You will use HCSS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, and company cost systems; you have direct access to superintendents, estimators, and safety.

Essential Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent plus 2–5 years on heavy civil, earthwork, landfill, or underground utility work.
  • Proven ability to process RFIs/submittals and maintain cost/quantity tracking that field teams actually use.
  • EIT required; PE preferred. Comfortable reading plans, specs, and geotech reports and translating them for the crew.
  • Clear, direct communication with owners, inspectors, and trades; willing to be on site, not just in the trailer.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in all weather on active construction sites.

Role Selling Points

  • Work that matters: landfills, dams, flood control, energy sites, and emergency response—not cookie-cutter buildings.
  • Visibility: small enough that your numbers and decisions are seen; large enough (500–1,000) to have real resources.
  • Variety: public and private work, grading through underground, from start-up through closeout.
  • Growth path into Project Manager or estimating for people who deliver in the field.

If you want to engineer real production instead of sitting in an office drawing details no one builds, apply now. Send your resume and a short note on a job you helped keep on time and on budget.
