Senior Data Center Solutions Engineer

Location: Remote — United States

Employment Type: Full-time

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Center Solutions Engineer to support the design and sale of enterprise infrastructure solutions.

In this customer-facing pre-sales role, you will partner with account managers, customers, manufacturers, distributors, and other technology partners to translate business and technical requirements into practical, scalable solutions. You will serve as the senior technical resource on strategic and complex opportunities, supporting the complete sales cycle from discovery and solution design through configuration and implementation planning.

The ideal candidate brings broad experience across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, and physical data center infrastructure—not expertise limited to a single product or manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture and Design

  • Design complete data center infrastructure solutions based on customer requirements.
  • Develop solutions incorporating:
  • Compute infrastructure
  • Enterprise storage
  • Data center networking
  • Virtualization
  • Hyperconverged infrastructure
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and data protection
  • Rack, power, cooling, and cabling requirements
  • Infrastructure management, monitoring, and lifecycle planning
  • Assess existing customer environments to identify technical requirements, constraints, risks, and modernization opportunities.
  • Perform capacity planning, infrastructure sizing, and compatibility analysis.
  • Develop technically sound architectures that account for performance, scalability, resiliency, manageability, and cost.

Pre-Sales Engineering

  • Serve as the senior technical resource for strategic and complex sales opportunities.
  • Partner with account managers throughout the sales cycle as a technical subject-matter expert.
  • Lead customer discovery sessions and technical requirements-gathering conversations.
  • Present proposed architectures and technical recommendations to customer stakeholders.
  • Identify technical risks, dependencies, compatibility concerns, and implementation considerations before a solution is sold.
  • Assist with bills of materials, configurations, technical proposals, scopes, and supporting documentation.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Manufacturer and Partner Engagement

  • Collaborate with manufacturers, distributors, and technology partners to develop customer solutions.
  • Obtain and evaluate configurations, pricing, specifications, availability, and compatibility information.
  • Maintain working knowledge across multiple technology ecosystems without depending on a single manufacturer.
  • Participate in relevant manufacturer training, certifications, and partner programs.
  • Stay current on developments across enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, data protection, and data center technologies.

Technical Experience

Qualified applicants should have strong practical knowledge across several of the following areas:

Compute

  • Enterprise server architecture
  • x86 and/or ARM-based platforms
  • Server configuration, sizing, and lifecycle planning

Storage and Data Protection

  • SAN and NAS platforms
  • Storage networking
  • Backup and recovery
  • Disaster recovery
  • Data protection and resiliency

Networking

  • Switching and routing fundamentals
  • Data center network architecture
  • Network segmentation and security fundamentals

Virtualization and Software-Defined Infrastructure

  • VMware Cloud Foundation
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • KVM-based virtualization
  • Hyperconverged infrastructure
  • Software-defined storage

Physical Data Center Infrastructure

  • Rack design and equipment placement
  • Power requirements and distribution
  • UPS systems
  • Cooling and thermal considerations
  • Cabling and related physical infrastructure

Required Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of experience in data center infrastructure, systems engineering, solutions architecture, sales engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise compute, storage, and networking technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience designing complete infrastructure solutions rather than supporting only an individual product.
  • Experience independently leading complex technical discovery and solution-design engagements.
  • Strong customer-facing communication, presentation, and consultative skills.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with customers, account managers, engineers, manufacturers, and distribution partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a value-added reseller, managed services provider, systems integrator, infrastructure manufacturer, technology distributor, or data center solutions provider.
  • Hands-on experience across multiple server, storage, networking, virtualization, or data-protection platforms.
  • Experience supporting high-performance computing, AI infrastructure, or large-scale storage environments.
  • Relevant certifications from manufacturers such as Dell Technologies, HPE, Lenovo, Cisco, NVIDIA, VMware/Broadcom, Microsoft, or comparable technology providers.

What Success Looks Like

  • Customers receive practical, technically accurate solutions aligned with their business requirements.
  • Potential risks and implementation concerns are identified before the sale is finalized.
  • Account managers receive responsive and dependable technical support throughout the sales process.
  • Configurations and proposed architectures are accurate, compatible, scalable, and commercially viable.
  • Complex technical recommendations are communicated clearly to every customer stakeholder.
