Tax Senior / Tax Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax Senior / Tax Manager to provide tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for a diverse client base. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, assisting clients with bookkeeping and accounting matters, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations, and delivering exceptional client service. The ideal candidate has a strong technical tax background, solid accounting knowledge, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, trusts, and other entities.
  • Ensure tax filings are completed accurately, timely, and in compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Research tax issues and apply appropriate tax guidance to client situations.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding tax matters and provide practical solutions.
  • Assist with tax projections, estimated tax calculations, and year-end tax planning.

Accounting & Bookkeeping Support

  • Assist clients with bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Review financial statements and accounting records to ensure tax return accuracy.
  • Help clients organize and clean up accounting records when needed.
  • Identify accounting issues that may impact tax reporting and recommend appropriate adjustments.
  • Collaborate with clients to improve accounting processes and financial recordkeeping.

Client Advisory

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by providing responsive and proactive service.
  • Explain tax regulations, filing requirements, and financial implications in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to clients.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on tax compliance and accounting matters.

Practice Management & Collaboration

  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate client documentation and engagement records using tax and practice management software.
  • Collaborate with team members on complex tax matters and provide guidance when needed.
  • Assist with workflow management and process improvements to increase efficiency and client service quality.
  • Mentor and support junior staff as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of progressive tax preparation and accounting experience in a public accounting or tax practice environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
  • Ability to independently prepare complex tax returns with minimal supervision.
  • Solid bookkeeping and accounting knowledge, including financial statement preparation and account reconciliations.
  • Experience working directly with small business owners and closely held businesses.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation.
  • Experience using professional tax preparation software such as UltraTax or similar platforms.
  • Experience with practice management software such as Canopy or equivalent.
  • Experience preparing returns for a variety of entity types, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, S corporations, trusts, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience providing tax planning and advisory services.
  • Supervisory or mentoring experience within a tax practice.
