Controller
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates in the New York Metro, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Boston, or last case scenario broader Eastern Time Zone)
Compensation: $180,000–$190,000 base + up to 20% bonus + equity (exceptional candidates may be considered up to $220,000 base)
About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed Management Services Organization (MSO) that acquires and supports professional services businesses through a centralized back-office operating model. The organization is in an aggressive growth phase, with a robust acquisition pipeline and a lean, entrepreneurial team.
This is a highly visible, strategic Controller opportunity for someone who enjoys building rather than simply maintaining accounting operations. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will play a critical role in developing scalable financial processes, integrating acquisitions, and helping build the accounting infrastructure needed to support continued expansion.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Controller—or an exceptional Assistant Controller ready to take the next step—who thrives in fast-paced, acquisition-driven environments.
What You'll Do
- Lead the company's accounting function and oversee day-to-day financial operations.
- Partner closely with the CFO to build and scale the holding corporation accounting
- Manage accounting, audit, and tax functions for multiple legal entities, including consolidations and financial reporting.
- Support the accounting integration of newly acquired businesses.
- Develop scalable accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Lead cash-to-accrual accounting conversions where appropriate.
- Evaluate and implement technologies that improve accounting efficiency and automation.
- Participate in the selection and implementation of a new ERP system, including chart of accounts design, entity mapping, data migration, and process optimization.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, close processes, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support the organization's continued growth through acquisitions.
What We're Looking For
- 7–12+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous Controller experience preferred, though exceptional Assistant Controllers with highly relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
- Strong experience in multi-entity accounting and consolidations.
- Background in acquisition-driven, roll-up, or aggregator business models.
- Experience working within private equity-backed organizations is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with domestic U.S. accounting operations.
- Experience managing cash-to-accrual accounting conversions.
- Advanced QuickBooks Desktop experience.
- Experience evaluating and implementing accounting systems and technology.
- Proven ability to build scalable accounting processes rather than simply following established procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- Public accounting foundation is a significant plus.
- Experience implementing ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms.
- Experience with chart-of-accounts redesign, system mapping, data migration, and multi-entity implementations.
- Experience with expense management platforms such as Ramp.
Ideal Background
Candidates with experience in any of the following environments are especially encouraged to apply:
- Management Services Organizations (MSOs)
- Dental Support Organizations (DSOs)
- Healthcare services organizations
- Veterinary or physical therapy platforms
- Private equity-backed roll-ups
- Multi-entity holding companies
- Professional services aggregators
- Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) platforms
- Insurance agency roll-ups
- CPA or tax advisory platforms
Who You Are
- A builder who enjoys creating systems and processes from the ground up.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and helping shape a rapidly growing organization.
- Resourceful, hands-on, and execution-oriented.
- Analytical with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day operational responsibilities.
- Resilient and adaptable in a fast-changing environment.
- Collaborative while capable of working independently.
Why This Opportunity?
This is a rare opportunity to help build the accounting foundation of a company experiencing significant growth through acquisitions. You'll have meaningful ownership over accounting operations, technology decisions, process improvements, and acquisition integrations while working alongside an experienced leadership team.
If you're energized by solving complex accounting challenges, building scalable systems, and making a lasting impact in a high-growth organization, we'd love to hear from you.
