Principal AI Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal AI Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered platforms and developer productivity solutions. This role combines deep backend engineering expertise with modern AI technologies to build scalable, production-ready systems that enhance software development workflows. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who has evolved from backend, platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering into AI and agentic workflows, and is passionate about applying AI to solve complex engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered applications, services, and developer productivity tools for production environments.
• Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable backend systems that integrate AI and agentic workflows.
• Build and enhance developer platforms, software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes, and engineering automation.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to define technical strategy and deliver AI-driven solutions.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for AI-enabled applications.
• Optimize system reliability, scalability, performance, and security across cloud-native environments.
• Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) and support containerized application deployments.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and identify opportunities to improve engineering efficiency and developer experience.
• Serve as a technical mentor and trusted advisor, providing architectural guidance and best practices across engineering teams.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, technical standards, and continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive experience designing and building large-scale backend systems in production environments.
• Strong background in platform engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), DevOps, or cloud infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience developing AI-powered applications, agentic workflows, or AI-assisted software development solutions.
• Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, release management processes, and deployment automation.
• Strong proficiency with modern backend programming languages and distributed system architecture.
• Experience with containerization technologies and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Experience implementing infrastructure as code using industry-standard tools.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, with AWS experience preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and technical leadership skills.
• Ability to mentor engineering teams while remaining actively involved in hands-on development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or modernizing developer platforms or software development lifecycle (SDLC) functions.
• Experience developing AI-assisted coding tools, agentic code generation platforms, or automated software engineering workflows.
• Knowledge of large language models (LLMs), AI orchestration frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or autonomous agent architectures.
• Experience integrating AI into production software development pipelines.
• Passion for emerging AI technologies and applying them to improve developer productivity, automation, and engineering operations.
