Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely cost estimates for landscape construction projects. This role works closely with preconstruction, operations, and leadership teams to evaluate opportunities, manage bid strategy, and ensure projects are set up for financial success from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for landscape construction projects, including hardscape, softscape, irrigation, grading, and site furnishings
- Perform quantity take-offs from plans, specifications, and other bid documents
- Solicit, analyze, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness and profitability
- Review project plans to identify risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability issues
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams during handoff to ensure scope clarity and budget alignment
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and unit pricing
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and internal bid reviews
- Support change order pricing and project budgeting as needed
- Assist leadership with forecasting, backlog planning, and bid pipeline management
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience estimating landscape construction projects
- Strong understanding of landscape construction methods, materials, and sequencing
- Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, LMN, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating commercial landscape or large-scale residential projects
- Knowledge of local subcontractor and supplier markets
- Background working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented construction environment
