Account Manager
About the Role
The Account Manager is responsible for managing and growing strategic customer relationships within industrial and technical markets. This role combines consultative sales expertise with strong technical knowledge to support existing accounts, identify new business opportunities, and deliver solutions that address customers' operational and business needs.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in industrial, chemical, manufacturing, mining, or related product sales, along with the technical ability to understand complex applications and provide value-driven solutions. Experience with mineral-based products, chemical products, or industrial materials is highly desirable.
Reporting to sales leadership, the Account Manager will work independently while collaborating closely with customer service, operations, logistics, finance, marketing, technical teams, and other internal departments to maximize customer satisfaction, revenue growth, and profitability.
Performance Objectives

Account Management: Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with existing customers while serving as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact.

Strategic Account Planning: Develop and execute strategic account plans that establish mutual objectives, identify growth opportunities, and strengthen long-term customer partnerships.

Customer Relationship Management: Maintain relationships with stakeholders at multiple organizational levels, including senior management, operations, technical teams, procurement, supply chain, and other key decision-makers.

Business Development: Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities within existing and prospective accounts to increase revenue and market share.

Technical Sales Support: Apply technical, chemical, and industry knowledge to understand customer applications, address challenges, and recommend appropriate product and service solutions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with customer service, marketing, operations, logistics, finance, technical teams, and other departments to deliver solutions that meet customer expectations and support business objectives.

Pricing & Contract Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, commercial agreements, contract terms, and other business conditions while maintaining appropriate profitability and customer value.

Customer Technical Support: Develop a strong understanding of customers' operations and provide guidance regarding product applications, handling, quality, and performance.

Market Intelligence: Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, market conditions, supply chain challenges, and customer needs to identify risks and opportunities.

Sales Forecasting & Budgeting: Participate in sales budget development, operational planning, and forecasting activities while providing accurate and timely updates on pipeline and expected revenue.

Sales Reporting: Maintain accurate customer and sales information and follow established sales processes, reporting requirements, and CRM practices.

Credit & Collections Support: Work with finance and credit teams to address outstanding balances, resolve account issues, and support timely collection of overdue accounts.

Customer Satisfaction: Proactively address customer concerns and coordinate internal resources to resolve issues while maintaining strong long-term relationships.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Business, Technical Studies, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 8–10+ years of professional sales experience, preferably within industrial, chemical, manufacturing, mining, materials, or other technical markets.
- Proven experience managing strategic customer accounts and developing long-term business relationships.
- Strong technical and/or chemical knowledge with the ability to apply technical concepts to real-world industrial applications.
- Experience selling technical products or solutions and translating complex information into practical customer recommendations.
- Strong understanding of industrial operations, manufacturing processes, supply chains, or product applications preferred.
- Demonstrated success identifying new business opportunities and growing existing accounts.
- Experience with pricing, contract negotiations, forecasting, budgeting, and sales planning.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business development skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience using CRM systems and sales reporting tools preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30%–50% within the United States, with occasional travel across North America.
