Landscape Manager

Position Overview

The Landscape Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a landscape distribution center and nursery yard, ensuring exceptional customer service, healthy inventory management, operational efficiency, and employee development. This role leads site operations, manages staff, maintains inventory accuracy, oversees equipment and facility maintenance, and ensures plants and landscape materials are properly cared for and presented.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational, inventory management, and customer service skills who can effectively balance team leadership, plant care, and business performance.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Facility Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the distribution center, nursery yard, and office facilities.
  • Ensure facilities, equipment, inventory, and property are properly secured.
  • Maintain operating hours and ensure the site is fully prepared for opening and properly secured at closing.
  • Ensure the property, office, yard, and customer-facing areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Coordinate routine facility maintenance and operational improvements.

Team Leadership & Staff Management

  • Supervise, train, coach, and develop employees to ensure high performance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Assign work responsibilities and monitor completion of tasks.
  • Promote a positive team environment and foster employee engagement and collaboration.
  • Manage staffing schedules and labor utilization to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary overtime.
  • Ensure employees adhere to company policies, safety standards, and professional appearance expectations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on performance management, coaching, and employee documentation.

Customer Service & Sales Support

  • Ensure all customers receive prompt, professional, and courteous service.
  • Support customer satisfaction by resolving issues and addressing concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist with maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Coordinate order fulfillment and ensure products are accurately selected and delivered.

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts, audits, and regular inventory reviews.
  • Monitor inventory quality and ensure products remain healthy, marketable, and properly rotated using first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory practices.
  • Analyze sales trends and inventory movement to determine restocking needs.
  • Coordinate receiving, transfers, and inventory replenishment activities.
  • Minimize inventory losses due to damage, shrinkage, pests, disease, theft, or improper handling.
  • Ensure all inventory leaving the facility is properly documented and invoiced.

Plant Health & Nursery Operations

  • Oversee plant care programs to ensure healthy, attractive, and sale-ready inventory.
  • Monitor irrigation systems and watering schedules to maintain proper moisture levels while conserving water.
  • Conduct regular inspections for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress.
  • Coordinate fertilization, pest management, weed control, and seasonal plant protection activities.
  • Ensure proper plant placement, organization, and presentation throughout the sales yard.
  • Implement best practices for maintaining inventory quality and reducing plant loss.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Oversee maintenance and care of rolling equipment, machinery, and operational assets.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Ensure equipment is operated safely and removed from service when maintenance issues arise.
  • Monitor equipment condition and maintain accurate maintenance records.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce workplace safety standards and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained on equipment operation and safety protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental and operational regulations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve customer service, inventory management, operational efficiency, and team performance.
  • Implement process improvements that support business growth and operational excellence.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to improve profitability, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience managing landscape, nursery, garden center, horticultural, agricultural, or related operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and employee supervision experience.
  • Strong inventory management and operational planning skills.
  • Knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, pest management, and landscape materials.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management abilities.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with inventory management systems and standard business software.

Preferred

  • Experience managing a landscape distribution center, nursery, or wholesale plant operation.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and cycle count processes.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and facility management.
  • Horticulture, landscape management, or related industry certifications.
