Director of Finance (Controller-Level)

Location: Fully onsite

Compensation: $170,000 – $190,000 base + 15% bonus + relocation support

Overview

We are seeking a high-impact Director of Finance with strong accounting leadership capabilities to oversee and evolve a complex healthcare finance function. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who can balance execution, systems thinking, and team development, while growing into broader financial leadership.

This is not a plug-and-play Controller role—success requires a builder mindset, operational curiosity, and the ability to navigate healthcare financial complexity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee general ledger and accounting operations, including month-end close and audit processes
  • Drive continuous improvement in close timelines and accounting accuracy
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to interpret and optimize financial systems (Workday/ERP)
  • Support and oversee payroll accounting interactions, ensuring accuracy across complex structures
  • Provide leadership across:
  • Assistant Controller
  • Financial Analysts (including systems-focused resources)
  • Accounts Payable team
  • Decision Support function
  • Act as a strategic problem solver, connecting systems, accounting, and business outcomes
  • Own annual audit processes and compliance requirements
  • Contribute to analytics and decision support initiatives to guide business performance

Qualifications

Required:

  • Strong foundation in accounting (GL, close, audit)
  • Healthcare finance experience strongly preferred (high priority)
  • Experience with Workday or large ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or step into leadership of teams
  • Experience in complex, multi-system environments
  • Strong understanding of payroll-accounting interaction
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and operate independently

Preferred:

  • CPA (not required)
  • Experience with cost accounting, reimbursement models, or regulated environments
  • Background in industries with operational complexity (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing)

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

  • Take ownership of GL and month-end close, driving efficiency toward a ~5-day close
  • Develop a strong understanding of:
  • Healthcare financial flows (e.g., reimbursements, patient accounting)
  • System-driven accounting logic
  • Payroll complexity
  • Become a go-to leader for accounting and systems-related problem solving
  • Build credibility across finance and operational teams

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Learner: Willing to go deep into systems and industry nuances
  • Builder: Improves processes rather than maintaining status quo
  • Operator: Executes with minimal oversight
  • Translator: Connects financial data, systems, and business impact
  • High ownership mindset with strong attention to detail

Work Environment & Benefits

  • Fully onsite, collaborative environment (majority of team in office)
  • Competitive compensation with bonus
  • Generous PTO (28 days)
  • Relocation support available
