Job Title: Tax Manager (Income Tax)
Position Summary
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing income tax compliance, managing tax audits, and supporting the calculation and reporting of income taxes for financial statement purposes. This role plays a critical part in minimizing tax risk, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong technical expertise in income tax compliance and provision, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Income Tax Compliance
- Manage federal and state income tax compliance, including preparation and review of returns, quarterly estimated payments, annual extensions, and related filings
- Oversee property tax compliance, including coordination with external advisors, filing returns, timely payments, assessment appeals, and monthly reconciliations
- Initiate and manage the preparation of income tax payments and filings
- Perform monthly account reconciliations related to tax accounts
Tax Provision & Financial Reporting
- Manage the quarterly income tax provision process
- Monitor and analyze the effective tax rate on a quarterly basis
- Prepare supporting documentation for external auditors related to the income tax provision
- Draft income tax disclosures and footnotes for annual and quarterly financial filings
- Manage tax depreciation calculations and related analytics
Audit & Risk Management
- Lead income and franchise tax audits from start to resolution
- Clearly and effectively communicate tax positions and supporting facts to auditors
- Develop innovative approaches to resolve audit challenges and defend tax positions
- Maintain and monitor internal controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
Research & Process Improvement
- Research complex income tax issues to minimize tax exposure and risk
- Stay current with changes in tax law and regulations through ongoing education
- Identify process improvement and tax planning opportunities and develop actionable plans
- Recognize issues proactively and bring solutions forward to leadership
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–7 years of income tax experience, including corporate or public accounting experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with auditors and cross-functional teams
- Solid understanding of tax law, tax provision processes, and compliance requirements
Preferred
- CPA license or active CPA candidate
- Experience preparing federal and state corporate income tax returns
- Experience with tax compliance and tax provision software
- Experience managing income and franchise tax audits
