Property Accountant

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial and residential properties. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, preparing financial statements, and partnering with property management to ensure timely and accurate reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of real estate accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple properties in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries and accounts receivable review.
  • Review accounts payable transactions to ensure proper coding and accuracy.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements on both accrual and cash bases.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules for financial reporting.
  • Manage lease administration activities, including CAM estimates and reconciliations.
  • Utilize property management and accounting software to maintain financial records and reporting.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with property management to resolve financial discrepancies and reporting issues.
  • Support external audits and tax preparation by providing required financial documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and established accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in property or real estate accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience with property management/accounting software (Yardi preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple properties, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
