Senior Accountant

The client is an independent investment firm built on thoughtful research, long-term partnerships, and uncompromising integrity. As Senior Accountant you will safeguard the accuracy of our financial statements so that investment professionals, clients, and regulators can act with complete confidence. Your work directly protects the firm’s reputation and enables us to scale without sacrificing quality.

Performance Objectives

  • Close the monthly books within five business days, delivering variance analyses that highlight material drivers and recommended actions.
  • Produce GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules that withstand internal audit and external review with zero restatements.
  • Own the general-ledger integrity for investment-related accounts, reconciling complex positions, fees, and carried-interest calculations to source systems.
  • Partner with Fund Administration and Operations to implement process improvements that reduce close-cycle time by 20% within the first year.
  • Prepare and file all required regulatory and tax reports on time, ensuring 100% compliance with SEC, IRS, and state requirements.
  • Mentor two junior accountants, elevating their technical skills so they independently own assigned account reconciliations within six months.

Environment & Resources

You will report to the Controller and sit within a collaborative 12-person Finance team in Baltimore. You will work with Workday Financials, Advent Geneva, and Bloomberg, supported by a dedicated IT and Operations group. Budget exists for continuing education and process-automation tools.

Essential Qualifications

  • CPA and 5+ years of public or investment-management accounting experience producing audited financials.
  • Demonstrated ability to close complex books under tight deadlines with documented process controls.
  • Hands-on experience reconciling alternative-investment vehicles, management fees, and carried interest.
  • Proven track record of identifying and implementing accounting-process improvements that measurably shorten cycle times.
  • Clear written and verbal communication that translates technical accounting into actionable insights for non-accountants.

Role Selling Points

  • Independent, employee-owned firm with a 25-year record of putting clients first.
  • Direct exposure to private equity, venture, and multi-asset strategies without the bureaucracy of a mega-bank.
  • Visible career path into Controller or Fund CFO roles as the firm continues to grow.
  • Baltimore headquarters with hybrid flexibility and a culture that values intellectual honesty over politics.
