About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Takeoff Technician to join our client's estimating and preconstruction team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and timely quantity takeoffs from civil and architectural plans to support competitive bids and efficient project execution. This position plays a key role in ensuring precision, consistency, and reliability in project cost estimating and planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and analyze engineering and architectural drawings, specifications, and soils reports.
- Convert 2D CAD files into 3D models using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Calculate earthwork volumes, structural excavation/backfill, and other construction quantities.
- Perform detailed area takeoffs for pads, slopes, streets, utilities, and drainage structures.
- Review and overlay plans in Bluebeam to identify revisions, discrepancies, and updates.
- Collaborate with estimators, geotechnical engineers, and project managers to clarify project scope and assumptions.
- Maintain standardized layers, colors, and plot styles to ensure consistency and clarity in outputs.
- Organize takeoff files and summaries for integration into bid packages and project documentation.
- Support other preconstruction or estimating activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in drafting, engineering technology, 3D modeling, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience in construction, estimating, or a related technical role.
- Ability to read and interpret civil and architectural plans, schematics, and technical reports.
- Proficiency in takeoff and modeling software such as Agtek, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar platforms.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and general office software.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Availability for full-time, on-site work (Monday–Friday) with occasional overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of direct experience performing takeoffs, ideally in heavy civil construction or grading.
- Familiarity with DOT specifications, project documentation, or related compliance standards.
