Our firm has been exclusively retained by a premier, high-growth technology organization in the Albany, NY area to identify a Senior Systems Engineer (Systems Engineer III). This is an elite opportunity designed specifically for a top-tier technical professional who wants to bridge the gap between high-level cloud architecture, hands-on engineering, and executive leadership.

This role is not just a technical dead-end; it is a clear, intentional succession track. Our client is looking for an engineer who will immediately become the #2 to the current Chief of Technology / Director, with the explicit goal and willingness to step into that top executive leadership seat in the near future.

Position Overview & Scope of Impact

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will step into an organization known for supporting sophisticated, enterprise-level environments and driving high-profile cloud transformations. You will take ownership of complex hybrid and cloud infrastructure, acting as both a hands-on technical powerhouse and a strategic leader.

• Cloud Transformation: Architect and execute enterprise-scale Azure migrations and hybrid cloud designs.
• Technical Escalation: Act as the final tier of technical authority for complex infrastructure, operating system, and security issues.
• Disaster Recovery & Security: Design and implement resilient business continuity solutions (Veeam) and robust perimeter security.
• Leadership Track: Mentor an eager team of mid-level and junior engineers while closely shadowing the Director to learn the operational and strategic facets of the department.

Qualifications & Technical "Must-Haves"

To be considered for this high-visibility track, candidates must possess a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary technical background. Our client requires deep, verifiable experience across the following five core domains:

1. Microsoft Azure: Advanced experience building, migrating, and managing enterprise cloud infrastructure.
2. Windows Server Ecosystem: Deep administrative and engineering knowledge of Windows Server environments.
3. SonicWall & Security: Direct, hands-on experience deploying and configuring SonicWall environments with a strict "security-first" mindset.
4. Server-Level Hardware: Strong familiarity with physical, enterprise-level server hardware lifecycle and configuration.
5. Virtualization & Continuity: Advanced proficiency with VMware/Hyper-V environments and Veeam availability suites.

• The desire and capability to transition from an individual contributor into a Chief of Technology / Director role.
• Superb communication skills and the professional polish needed to interface with executive stakeholders and enterprise clients.
• Prior experience working within highly regulated sectors (e.g., healthcare, finance) is highly desirable.
