Director of Business Development – Medical Device Contract Manufacturing

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Business Development to drive growth within the medical device contract manufacturing market. This role will focus on developing new business opportunities with medical device OEMs, particularly organizations seeking manufacturing partners for complex electromechanical medical devices.

The ideal candidate is an experienced business development professional with a strong track record of selling contract manufacturing solutions. This individual should be highly energetic, proactive, commercially driven, and comfortable taking ownership of the sales process from identifying opportunities through closing and establishing long-term customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute business development strategies to identify and secure new contract manufacturing opportunities with medical device OEMs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the outsourcing and product development process.
  • Identify opportunities for contract manufacturing partnerships involving complex electromechanical medical devices and related products.
  • Manage the full business development lifecycle, including prospecting, qualification, relationship development, proposal coordination, negotiations, and closing.
  • Develop a strong understanding of customer needs and translate those needs into appropriate manufacturing and outsourcing solutions.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, operations, and product development teams to develop solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate internal resources to support customer presentations, proposals, quotations, and new business opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy sales pipeline and provide accurate forecasting and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Research market trends, competitors, customer needs, and emerging opportunities within the medical device outsourcing industry.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade shows, networking events, and customer meetings.
  • Negotiate commercial terms and work collaboratively with internal teams to successfully transition new customers into production.
  • Maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers at medical device OEMs and identify opportunities for account expansion.
  • Consistently pursue new opportunities and proactively ask for the business.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in business development or sales within the medical device industry.
  • 7+ years of experience selling contract manufacturing services for electromechanical medical devices to medical device OEMs.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully winning new contract manufacturing business.
  • Strong understanding of the medical device outsourcing and contract manufacturing landscape.
  • Experience working with complex electromechanical medical devices, assemblies, or related products.
  • Established network of relationships within the medical device OEM community preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the medical device product development and manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Proven ability to manage complex sales cycles involving multiple technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered.
