Job Summary

The Landscape Construction Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of the landscape construction division, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. This pivotal leadership role involves coordinating multiple project teams, managing resources, optimizing efficiency, and fostering strong client and internal stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project & Operations Management: Plan, direct, and coordinate the scheduling and execution of all landscape construction projects from conception to completion. This includes interpreting landscape plans, drawings, and specifications for buildability and accuracy.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, materials, and labor costs, implementing corrective actions to meet or exceed efficiency targets. Assist in the estimating and procurement process as required.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and supervise foremen and field crews, ensuring a productive, safe, and positive work environment. Conduct performance reviews and enforce company policies.
  • Quality & Safety Assurance: Conduct regular on-site inspections and audits to ensure all work adheres to company quality standards and health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, WorkSafeBC). Lead safety meetings and ensure proper equipment use and maintenance.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Act as a primary liaison between field operations, administrative staff, designers, architects, vendors, and clients to ensure clear communication and high levels of customer satisfaction. Proactively address and resolve any on-site issues or client concerns.
  • Inventory & Equipment Management: Oversee the tracking, inventory, and maintenance of all materials, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring their optimal utilization and care.
  • Process Improvement: Develop, refine, and implement improved work methods, standards, and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and quality.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in landscape construction or a related construction industry, including at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or operations leadership role.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of landscape construction methods, materials, equipment, and horticultural practices.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership, team management, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications; proficiency with project management, scheduling, and job costing software (e.g., LMN, Aspire, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Licensing & Certification: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required. Relevant certifications such as First Aid/CPR, OSHA Safety Certification, or a state-specific Pesticide Applicator License are highly valued.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, perform physical labor, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
