Senior Project Manager – Healthcare Construction

About the Role

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful delivery of complex healthcare construction projects from initial concept through final completion. This role requires extensive experience managing healthcare construction projects, including medical office buildings, surgical centers, hospitals, specialty healthcare facilities, and other highly regulated environments.

The Senior Project Manager will oversee all phases of project execution, including preconstruction, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, construction, client coordination, and project closeout. The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on construction leader who can effectively manage project teams, budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships while maintaining the highest standards for quality, safety, and compliance.

Performance Objectives

  • Project Leadership: Lead healthcare construction projects from concept and preconstruction through construction and final closeout, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to established quality standards.
  • Preconstruction Management: Oversee preconstruction activities, including project planning, constructability reviews, estimating, value engineering, budgeting, scheduling, and procurement strategies.
  • Budget & Financial Management: Develop and manage project budgets, monitor costs, review financial performance, and implement strategies to maintain profitability and financial control.
  • Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and monitor detailed project schedules while proactively identifying potential delays, conflicts, and risks.
  • Construction Oversight: Coordinate all aspects of construction activities, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Team Management: Lead and coordinate project teams, including project engineers, superintendents, subcontractors, consultants, architects, and other project stakeholders.
  • Client Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with owners, healthcare organizations, design teams, and other stakeholders, serving as a trusted point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Procurement & Contract Management: Oversee subcontractor and vendor procurement, contract negotiations, change orders, and purchase agreements to support project objectives.
  • Risk Management: Identify project risks and develop proactive mitigation strategies related to cost, schedule, quality, safety, procurement, and project scope.
  • Quality Control: Maintain high standards for workmanship and project execution while ensuring compliance with design requirements, building codes, healthcare standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Project Closeout: Manage the completion and closeout process, including punch lists, inspections, documentation, turnover, warranties, and final project requirements.
  • Communication & Reporting: Provide regular project updates, financial reporting, forecasts, and status information to leadership, clients, and other stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Significant experience managing commercial construction projects, with extensive experience specifically within the healthcare construction sector.
  • Proven experience delivering healthcare facilities such as hospitals, medical office buildings, surgical centers, clinics, and other specialized healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects through the full lifecycle, from preconstruction and estimating through construction and closeout.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, contract documents, project controls, scheduling, estimating, budgeting, and procurement.
  • Experience managing project budgets, financial forecasts, change orders, and cost controls.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, building codes, safety requirements, and quality control practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with construction management and project scheduling software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
