Director of Business Development
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Director of Business Development to drive growth across a diversified portfolio of medical device manufacturing businesses. This is a senior commercial leadership opportunity focused primarily on expanding contract manufacturing partnerships for Class II and Class III electromechanical medical devices, including both wearable and implantable products.
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for identifying and securing new opportunities with medical device OEMs, developing strategic customer relationships, and positioning the organization as a trusted outsourcing and manufacturing partner.
The ideal candidate is a high-energy, proactive, and competitive business development professional who is comfortable pursuing complex sales opportunities, engaging senior decision-makers, and navigating the medical device manufacturing ecosystem. This individual should be persistent and confident in asking for the business while maintaining a collaborative approach with internal teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute strategies to generate new business opportunities across the organization's medical device manufacturing portfolio.
- Focus primarily on contract manufacturing opportunities involving Class II and Class III electromechanical medical devices.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue prospective medical device OEM customers and strategic accounts.
- Manage the full business development lifecycle, from prospect identification and initial engagement through proposal development, negotiation, and contract award.
- Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Build relationships with senior executives, engineering leaders, operations teams, procurement organizations, and other key decision-makers within medical device OEMs.
- Understand customer requirements and position appropriate manufacturing capabilities and solutions across the broader portfolio.
- Proactively pursue opportunities and confidently ask for the business when appropriate.
- Develop strategies to expand relationships and identify additional opportunities within existing and prospective accounts.
Strategic Account & Relationship Management
- Build and manage long-term relationships with current and prospective medical device customers.
- Serve as a trusted commercial partner and strategic advisor within the medical device outsourcing and contract manufacturing space.
- Develop a deep understanding of customers' products, manufacturing challenges, commercialization plans, and strategic objectives.
- Establish relationships across multiple levels of customer organizations to create durable partnerships.
- Maintain regular communication with prospects and customers throughout lengthy and complex sales cycles.
- Position the organization as a strategic partner capable of supporting customers throughout product development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
Technical & Solution Selling
- Develop a strong understanding of contract manufacturing capabilities for electromechanical medical devices.
- Engage customers in discussions regarding product design, manufacturing requirements, production scalability, quality, supply chain, and commercialization.
- Translate customer requirements into compelling manufacturing solutions.
- Partner with technical and operational teams to develop customer-specific proposals and solutions.
- Clearly communicate the organization's capabilities, differentiators, and value proposition to medical device OEMs.
- Stay current on medical device industry trends, outsourcing strategies, manufacturing technologies, and customer needs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with plant leadership and operational teams to evaluate prospective opportunities and ensure alignment between customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Product Development, Quality, and other internal functions throughout the business development process.
- Coordinate internal resources to respond effectively to customer opportunities and requests.
- Ensure customer expectations and commercial commitments are clearly communicated to internal stakeholders.
- Facilitate effective handoffs from business development to operational and account management teams following contract award.
- Help develop solutions that balance customer requirements with manufacturing capabilities, capacity, quality, cost, and business objectives.
Market Development
- Monitor trends and developments across the medical device contract manufacturing market.
- Identify emerging opportunities involving electromechanical, wearable, implantable, and other complex medical devices.
- Develop and maintain a strong network of medical device OEM contacts and industry relationships.
- Represent the organization at relevant medical device conferences, trade shows, networking events, and industry meetings.
- Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to commercial and executive leadership.
- Identify opportunities to expand the organization's presence within target markets and customer segments.
Reporting Structure
The Director of Business Development will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and will work closely with executive leadership and operational leaders across the organization.

This is a highly visible, growth-oriented role requiring significant initiative, persistence, and relationship-building. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating independently while leveraging a broad internal network to develop and close complex opportunities.

Essential Qualifications
- 10+ years of business development, sales, or commercial experience selling to Medical Device OEMs.
- Direct experience selling contract manufacturing services for electromechanical medical devices is required.
- Strong understanding of electromechanical medical device products and manufacturing requirements.
- Demonstrated experience developing and closing complex B2B sales opportunities.
- Established network and relationships within the medical device OEM community.
- Experience selling outsourced manufacturing, contract manufacturing, or related engineering/manufacturing services.
- Ability to engage effectively with technical, operational, procurement, and executive-level stakeholders.
- Proven track record of developing new business and growing strategic accounts.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to understand complex technical requirements and translate them into compelling commercial solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Class II and Class III medical devices.
- Experience with electromechanical devices, including wearable and/or implantable products.
- Experience selling end-to-end contract manufacturing services.
- Experience working with medical device product development and commercialization teams.
- Established relationships with medical device OEM decision-makers.
- Experience working with cross-functional manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, quality, and product development organizations.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred
