Senior Staff Accountant

Position Summary

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing advanced accounting functions and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and contributing to financial planning and analysis.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and experienced in overseeing full-cycle accounting processes while partnering with senior leadership to support strategic financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger, billing, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis.
  • Develop, document, and maintain internal control policies and accounting procedures.
  • Monitor cash flow, funding balances, and financial commitments.
  • Oversee payments related to loans, debts, and other significant financial transactions.
  • Ensure proper organization and maintenance of financial records, accounts, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with external CPA firms and professional advisors for audits and tax matters.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement operational best practices.
  • Support special projects, financial analysis, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to accounting staff as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with senior management.
  • Experience mentoring or leading accounting staff is preferred.
