Senior Staff Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing advanced accounting functions and supporting the overall financial operations of the organization. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and contributing to financial planning and analysis.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytically strong, and experienced in overseeing full-cycle accounting processes while partnering with senior leadership to support strategic financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, including general ledger, billing, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue recognition.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis.
- Develop, document, and maintain internal control policies and accounting procedures.
- Monitor cash flow, funding balances, and financial commitments.
- Oversee payments related to loans, debts, and other significant financial transactions.
- Ensure proper organization and maintenance of financial records, accounts, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms and professional advisors for audits and tax matters.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement operational best practices.
- Support special projects, financial analysis, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior management.
- Experience mentoring or leading accounting staff is preferred.
