Controls Service Engineer

Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Reports To: Controls Service Manager

Compensation: Experience-Based

Position Summary

The Controls Service Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, designing, and supporting industrial control systems in manufacturing and process environments. This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of automation systems, including PLCs, PACs, DCS platforms, and HMI applications. The ideal candidate will support both service and project-based work while delivering high-quality technical solutions and customer support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot industrial control system issues to minimize downtime and restore operations efficiently.
  • Respond to service requests and provide technical support for automation and electrical systems.
  • Design, develop, install, and modify industrial control systems and HMI applications.
  • Manage assigned projects to ensure timely completion and quality execution.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to support system upgrades, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical input to support quotations, proposals, and project scope development.
  • Work independently or collaboratively within project teams depending on assignment requirements.
  • Train customers and team members on control system operation, maintenance, and best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships through effective communication and customer service.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience troubleshooting industrial control systems and electrical equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; OR
  • Associate degree in a related technical discipline with two (2) years of equivalent field experience.
  • Experience with industrial automation systems, control system design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, PACs, motor controls, instrumentation, and electronic sensors.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Experience with HMI software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety standards and regulations.
  • Experience with servo systems and motion controls.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical or medical device manufacturing is a plus.
