Background

Matanataki Pte Ltd (MPL) is a woman-founded Fiji incorporated company and developer of climate resilient and gender equitable investment opportunities in the Pacific. MPL is undergoing investor due diligence for a blended finance impact fund for the Pacific, Matanataki Pacific Fund 1 (MPF1 or the “Fund”) providing investors with access to community-owned and community-serving businesses that deliver climate resilience to Pacific communities, with coral reefs as the guiding star indicating the health and climate resilience of the whole. Bringing together institutional and private investors with aligned values, MPF1 will channel investment into long term Pacific-owned businesses which will deliver climate resilience for our ocean communities, playing a hands-on active co-ownership role alongside the business owners and their management teams. About the role

Matanataki is seeking an Investment Associate to join the investment team of Matanataki Pacific Fund 1 (MPF1). The Investment Associate will support the team across investment origination, due diligence, transaction execution and portfolio management. The role will provide exposure across the full investment lifecycle and involve direct engagement with businesses and management teams across the Pacific. The Investment Associate will also support portfolio monitoring and value creation following investment and will be expected to progressively take ownership of investment and portfolio workstreams.

Key Responsibilities

Investment analysis and execution

• Conduct company, sector and market research to identify potential investment opportunities
• Support the screening and assessment of potential investment opportunities
• Track sector trends, competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic developments that may affect current or prospective investments
• Build and maintain financial models, valuations, and scenario analyses
• Support commercial and financial due diligence and coordinate information required from prospective investees and external advisors
• Support the preparation of investment papers, Investment Committee materials and other transaction documentation
• Maintain pipeline and transaction information and support internal investment reporting

Portfolio management and value creation

• Support ongoing monitoring of portfolio companies, including financial, operational and impact performance
• Prepare portfolio analysis, dashboards and reporting for the investment team and relevant governance bodies
• Work directly with portfolio company teams to collect and analyse information and support agreed value creation initiatives
• Support senior investment team members in preparing for and following up on portfolio company board and governance meetings
• Work with the Impact & ESG and Technical Assistance functions on portfolio company priorities and initiatives

Fund support

• Maintain high-quality investment files, financial information and portfolio monitoring records
• Prepare high-level meetings, board sessions and events
• Prepare executive-level briefing materials, strategic presentations, agendas, minutes and confidential documentation
• Support compliance, governance, board reporting, and regulatory documentation requirements

Candidate experience and capabilities

Experience and qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Management, Law, or a related field
• Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in private equity, growth equity, investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate finance or a related investment role

Required skills

• Organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple investment and portfolio workstreams and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to translate financial and commercial data into clear investment insights
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other relevant Microsoft Office and online collaboration tools
• Experience working across diverse cultures and an understanding of business dynamics in the Pacific, Oceania or international contexts would be valued
• Alignment with Matanataki’s vision and principles of regenerative impact, gender equity and climate resilience
• Fluent in English; Pacific Island and Hindi language skills are highly regarded
