If you’re an experienced irrigation tech who’s tired of bouncing between seasonal work, unclear expectations, or companies that don’t really understand irrigation, this might be a good fit.
A long-established, family-run outdoor services company in Metro Detroit is looking to add a Senior Irrigation Technician. This is a hands-on, year-round role for someone who can work independently in the field, take pride in doing things the right way, and doesn’t mind pitching in around the shop or during snow season when irrigation slows down.
This isn’t a helper role or an entry-level position. We’re looking for someone who already knows irrigation systems and wants steady work, variety in their day, and a company that values experience.
What You’ll Be Doing
Primary Focus – Irrigation (In Season):
- Diagnose, service, and repair commercial and residential irrigation systems
- Perform spring startups and winterizations independently
- Troubleshoot electrical issues, valves, controllers, wiring, and pumps
- Identify system problems and make practical, long-term repair recommendations
- Work independently while representing the company professionally on customer sites
Secondary Support – Shop & Equipment (Slow Periods / Off Season):
- Help with basic mechanical work on trucks, trailers, and irrigation/landscape equipment
- Assist with preventative maintenance and light repairs
- Support the operations team to keep equipment ready for the field
Winter Operations:
- Participate in snow & ice management operations
- Work may include plowing, equipment support, or field operations
- Overtime and weekend work available during snow events
What We’re Looking For (Must-Haves)
This role requires real, hands-on experience — not entry-level training.
- Senior-level irrigation experience (commercial and residential)
- Ability to independently handle:
- Spring startups
- Winterizations
- Electrical troubleshooting
- Pump and system diagnostics
- Strong mechanical aptitude (vehicles, equipment, or small engines)
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
- Willingness to work year-round, including snow operations
- Comfortable with overtime when business demands it
This is not a seasonal, helper-only, or residential-only position.
Compensation & Schedule
- $22–$25 per hour, based on experience
- Bonus potential
- Health insurance available after 6-months
- Full-time, year-round employment
- Overtime available
- Stable workload with a company that’s been operating successfully for decades
Why This Role Is Worth a Look
- Clear expectations — you know what you’re responsible for
- Year-round work without scrambling for hours
- Variety in your day without chaos
- A company that values experienced technicians and doesn’t micromanage
- Long-term opportunity, not a short-term job
