Role: Chief of Staff
Location: Remote
Our client is on a mission to make employee ownership the norm, not the exception. They help business owners sell to their employees, creating shared prosperity that strengthens companies, communities, and the broader economy. Our client has supported over 60,000 workers to become employee-owners to date, but for them, this is just the beginning.
With 75% of all business owners in the US looking to sell over the next decade, they believe that making employee ownership the exit of choice for small businesses is one of the most powerful ways to close the wealth gap in America, and in this role, you'll be at the center of making it happen.
Position Overview:
Be the architect of how they work: You'll design the operating system that powers their organization, influencing everything from how they evaluate ideas to how they celebrate wins.
Turn expansive opportunity into focus: Working directly with the founder, you'll translate vision into execution, building the focus, systems and rhythms that help a nimble, Series A team punch above its weight.
Build the machine that scales: As their Chief of Staff, you'll establish the planning frameworks, knowledge systems, and operating cadences that will carry them from startup to scale-up.
Make the leadership team unstoppable: Design and run the rituals that make their leadership team greater than the sum of its parts and their secret weapon as they grow.
Work on problems that matter. 75% of U.S. small businesses will change hands this decade; you'll build the internal infrastructure that lets them seize this once-in-a-generation opportunity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build the company operating system. This includes:
- Defining the repeatable system for how their remote team works together, including evaluating ideas, designing and validating hypothesis-driven experiments, sharing knowledge, and celebrating their wins.
- Owning planning and goal-setting. Create annual plans, quarterly goals, monthly targets, and OKRs that the team actually uses.
- Designing and managing their operating cadences. Establish the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual rituals that keep their small, remote team in sync and executing with both quality and speed while driving alignment across teams.
-
Own their people operations. Manage recruiting relationships and equip managers to run processes that consistently result in hiring A players, keep compensation packages competitive and fair, and build their HR policies, SOPs, and performance systems that help people thrive. Handle sensitive matters with care and speed.
-
Own cross-functional initiatives or special projects that move the business forward. Take ownership of high-stakes initiatives that don't fit neatly into any one function but are essential to their success.
-
Support investor relations. Draft monthly investor updates and coordinate development of quarterly board materials by their leadership team; build a lightweight, repeatable machine that keeps their investors informed and engaged and leverages them as an extension of their team.
-
Drive team acceleration. Treat the company like a product and their employees as the user, constantly thinking about what they should build and improve on, owning the components that make the company’s culture and productivity come to life.
