Role: Technical Chief of Staff to the CTO
Location: New York City (preferred) or Miami — in-person / hybrid. Europe considered with significant time overlap.
Our client is a Series A fintech company building a non-custodial, onchain brokerage platform that enables users to trade global financial markets — including equities, commodities, FX, and indices — directly from a crypto wallet. The company is reimagining traditional brokerage infrastructure by combining the accessibility of retail trading platforms with the transparency and programmability of blockchain technology.
Founded by highly technical operators with backgrounds in top-tier institutions, the company has quickly established strong market credibility, raising ~$27M from leading venture firms, crypto-native funds, and prominent financial institutions. With a rapidly growing engineering organization and a live product gaining traction, the business is at a critical inflection point as it scales its platform and team.
The culture is intentionally high-intensity and execution-focused. Despite growth, the company maintains a scrappy, early-stage operating style — prioritizing speed, ownership, and technical excellence over process and hierarchy.
Position Overview:
The Technical Chief of Staff to the CTO is a highly operational role designed to act as a force multiplier for a deeply technical founder. This individual will own the execution layer across the engineering organization — ensuring that decisions translate into shipped outcomes.
This is not a traditional Chief of Staff role. It is closer to a blend of technical program management, engineering operations, and leadership support. The focus is on enforcement, performance tracking, and execution rigor across a fast-scaling team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own daily prioritization and communication flow for the CTO, including triaging inbound requests and surfacing key decisions
- Drive end-to-end execution on technical initiatives, ensuring alignment from decision through delivery
- Build and maintain a performance tracking system across engineering (delivery, missed deadlines, accountability)
- Lead post-mortems on missed deliverables and implement process improvements
- Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management decisions with structured documentation
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies across multiple engineering functions
- Partner with internal stakeholders on operational cadence, hiring pipeline, and team effectiveness
- Translate technical decisions into actionable workstreams and ensure follow-through
Qualifications:
✅ You likely fit if you:
- 4–10 years of experience in a technical or product-oriented role (engineering, TPM, engineering operations, or similar)
- Background in consumer-facing technology products, ideally fintech, trading, or marketplace platforms
- Technical foundation (e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering) with ability to understand code and system design
- Experience managing engineers or running performance review processes
- Demonstrated ability to drive execution in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- Strong written communication and documentation habits
- High ownership mindset with a bias toward action and follow-through
❌ This role is not for you if:
- Pure consulting, investment banking, or strategy backgrounds without hands-on product or engineering experience
- B2B or enterprise-only experience without exposure to consumer products
- Non-technical Chief of Staff or operations profiles
- Candidates seeking a strategic, investor-facing, or administrative role
- Individuals uncomfortable with high-intensity, execution-heavy environments
What they offer:
- Competitive Series A–level compensation (cash + meaningful equity)
- Direct partnership with a highly technical founder at a critical growth stage
- Opportunity to shape the operating layer of a scaling engineering organization
- Clear path toward senior leadership (e.g., Head of Engineering Operations, VP-level roles)
- Exposure to a high-caliber team and a category-defining product
