Job Summary

FVG is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Mortgage / Credit Underwriter with Canadian market experience to join our remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage and credit applications, assessing borrower risk, and ensuring lending decisions align with Canadian lending guidelines, client requirements, regulatory standards, and internal quality benchmarks. This role requires strong judgment, accuracy, and the ability to work independently in a virtual, offshore environment supporting Canadian mortgage files.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and underwrite Canadian mortgage and credit applications in accordance with client, investor, and regulatory guidelines
  • Analyze borrower financial profiles, including credit reports (Equifax and TransUnion), income, employment, assets, liabilities, and debt-to-income ratios
  • Review income documentation such as T4s, Notices of Assessment (NOAs), pay stubs, and bank statements
  • Calculate and validate GDS, TDS, and Loan-to-Value (LTV) ratios
  • Evaluate property-related documentation including appraisals, purchase agreements, title reports, and insurance
  • Identify risk factors and recommend loan approvals, denials, or conditional approvals
  • Ensure loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant prior to final decision
  • Request, review, and validate additional documentation as required
  • Maintain thorough underwriting notes and documentation within loan origination or credit systems
  • Communicate underwriting decisions and conditions clearly with remote team members and Canadian client stakeholders
  • Meet turnaround time and quality benchmarks while managing multiple files remotely
  • Stay current with underwriting guidelines, Canadian mortgage regulations, and industry best practices


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of 2+ years experience in Canadian mortgage or credit underwriting
  • Strong understanding of Canadian mortgage lending, credit analysis, and risk assessment
  • Familiarity with underwriting guidelines (Conventional, Insured / Uninsured, or other applicable Canadian programs)
  • Experience reviewing credit reports, income documentation, and full mortgage loan files
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a remote work setting
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and collaborate across time zones
  • Ability to support partial Canadian working hours


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fully remote or offshore underwriting environment
  • Familiarity with loan origination systems (LOS) or underwriting platforms
  • Knowledge of Canadian compliance and regulatory standards in mortgage or consumer lending
  • Experience supporting multiple Canadian lenders or high-volume underwriting workflows
