Our firm partners closely with clients to solve complex accounting challenges, improve processes, and support business growth. The depth of our services is matched to each client and can range from basic bookkeeping to full accounting services including audit and financial management.


The Role: Controller

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing client engagements, leading Accounting teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality consulting services for their portfolio of clients. This role blends technical accounting expertise with people leadership, client relationship management, and operational oversight. The Controller will collaborate with Solid Ratio’s Finance & Accounting teams. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accountant who's wanting to manage their own book of clients in multiple industries. Primary focus will be consumer products companies, but our clients span across numerous industries and sell through multiple channels.


RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Client & Engagement Leadership:
  • Oversee multiple client engagements, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of accounting and advisory services
  • Serve as a senior advisor to clients on complex accounting matters, including GAAP compliance, technical accounting, and financial reporting
  • Review and approve deliverables such as financial statements, reconciliations, and management reports
  • Act as a primary escalation point for complex accounting or client issues
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance, and client-focused culture
  • Month-End
  • Ensure that the period is closed accurately and timely
  • Reconciliations to confirm Sales/Revenue and Inventory/COGS are accurate
  • Review of inventory processes and reconciliation to ensure that inventory/COGS is accurate
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations for completion
  • Review of financials for accuracy. Recognizing and booking accruals for accuracy of financials
  • Miscellaneous entries for clients as needed
  • Preparation of financials for management team
  • Overseeing day-to-day accounting
  • As the role progresses, you will oversee a team of accountants that can range from staff accountant to accounting managers. At times, you may have to assist with some of these tasks if the engagement does not require the other resources of our teams.
  • Review of weekly AP Aging and communication with client management teams to determine what should be paid.
  • Communication with clients to stay engaged and in the know of what is going on within their company.  
  • Review of sales tax/income taxes prepared by third parties
  • Manage payroll; the level of involvement varies from client to client. Will be involved with benefits, processing payroll, registering for withholding in new states, etc.
  • Manage debt facilities/compliance with third-party lenders
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external associates
  • Partner with executive leadership on firm strategy, capacity planning, and growth initiatives
  • Assisting in with other tasks as needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATE:

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s degree a plus)
  • Minimum 8 years experience in accounting-focused roles at a high-growth company
  • Ideal candidates have experience with consulting for Accounting. Looking for someone who has previous experience in fractional accounting consulting.  
  • You need to be proactive and a self-motivator with the ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot issues that arise
  • High intellectual curiosity and passion for continuous learning
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent organization skills as well as a professional attitude required
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Internal control process and procedures 
  • Experience with NetSuite and comfortable working with multiple systems
  • E-Commerce and/or CPG experience highly preferred
  • Microsoft Excel a must
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-15 days out of the year


Benefits & Perks:

As a full-time, $150-190k base salary depending on the level of experience, benefits include: 10% annual bonus, Profit Sharing, Unlimited PTO, 50% contribution towards Medical, Dental, Vision, and a 401k with a 5% match after 6 months.
