Cybersecurity Architect

Role Overview

The Cybersecurity Architect will be a senior member of the IT Security & Compliance team, responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s security architecture. This role requires both deep technical expertise and strategic vision, with the ability to guide executives, influence managers, and ensure alignment between security initiatives and business objectives.

This is an individual contributor role (equivalent to a Director or former CISO level), ideal for someone who wants to focus on architecture and strategy rather than people management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organization’s overall security architecture.
  • Ensure that security architecture effectively protects the organization’s information assets and aligns with business strategy and risk profile.
  • Assess current environments, document existing architectures, and recommend improvements.
  • Guide directors and managers on security considerations and influence decision-making.
  • Design and implement solutions across application, database, endpoint, network, cloud, and data security.
  • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Lead incident response planning and execution.
  • Provide security awareness training and thought leadership across the organization.
  • Identify emerging threats, technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Create detailed documentation including processes, guidelines, standards, technical specifications, and architecture diagrams.

Qualifications

Required:

  • ~20 years of IT and cybersecurity experience (18–19 years acceptable if equivalent in knowledge).
  • Deep technical expertise across all 7 domains of security (applications, infrastructure, network, data, cloud, etc.).
  • Proven ability to integrate security across databases, operations, networks, and systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to influence executives and mentor staff.
  • Highly active in the cybersecurity community, with strong knowledge of vendors, players, and industry trends.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, CCSP, GSLC, etc.).
  • Experience in AI security a plus.
  • Long-term consulting background (20+ years) valued.
  • Membership in one or more security associations (ISSA, ISACA, InfraGard, etc.).
