Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Telecommunications Technician to support pipeline operations, terminals, and related company assets in the Carlsbad, NM area.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and maintain telecommunications equipment across Carlsbad, NM and surrounding sites.
- Work with systems including (but not limited to):
- Microwave Radios
- Industrial Wireless Systems
- SCADA Communication Systems
- VSAT, CDMA, Phone Systems
- Digital Multiplexers
- Office Networks (LAN/WAN)
- VHF Radio Systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve outages using strong problem-solving skills.
- Document installations, repairs, and outages in the ticketing system.
- Communicate professionally with employees, management, vendors, and customers.
- Plan daily tasks for maximum efficiency and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Respond to callouts and unscheduled overtime as needed; non-traditional hours may apply.
- Maintain safety standards for personnel, assets, and the public.
- Ensure dependable attendance and high performance.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally; handle calls professionally.
- Travel as required (company vehicle provided).
Requirements
Education
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate Degree in Electronics Technology preferred.
- Four years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
- BS in Technology or Engineering is a plus.
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum of three years in telecommunications for Level II Tech or higher.
- Strong electronics background or equivalent work experience.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
Skills & Competencies
- Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for troubleshooting telecom issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive attitude and adaptability to organizational changes.
- Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs regularly.
- Based in Carlsbad, NM; travel required.
- Callouts and overtime anticipated.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of digital microwave communications, multiplexers, LAN/WAN networks, routers, and data acquisition systems.
- Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Cisco IP Telephony, Nortel, NABER, NICET, or FCC license are a plus.
