Apply for this job

We’re seeking a Senior Palantir Architect to serve as the organizational authority on ontology design, modeling, and governance within the Palantir Foundry platform.

This role will lead the strategic development and ongoing evolution of an enterprise‑scale Foundry Ontology, ensuring object types, link types, and actions are modeled accurately, consistently, and in alignment with real‑world business processes. The ideal candidate brings deep Palantir ontology expertise combined with strong data governance judgment to support scalable, secure, and reliable downstream applications.

Key Responsibilities

Ontology Design & Architecture

  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of the enterprise Palantir Foundry ontology, including object types, properties, link types, interfaces, and composite structures.
  • Define and enforce ontology modeling standards, naming conventions, documentation practices, and design patterns across all Foundry projects.
  • Architect ontology structures that accurately represent business domains while optimizing performance for downstream applications such as Workshop modules and AIP workflows.
  • Evaluate modeling tradeoffs (e.g., flattened vs. normalized structures, interface usage) and guide teams toward consistent, scalable ontology patterns.
  • Own ontology versioning, schema evolution, and change‑impact analysis across dependent applications and workflows.

Ontology‑Driven Application Enablement

  • Partner closely with application engineers to ensure Foundry applications, Object Explorer views, and AIP functions are built on a strong ontology foundation.
  • Design ontology‑backed workflows that translate complex business processes into intuitive operational and analytical experiences.
  • Establish reusable patterns for ontology‑powered alerts, automation, and decision support.

Governance & Stewardship

  • Develop and maintain governance policies for ontology lifecycle management, including creation, modification, deprecation, and retirement of object and link types.
  • Implement and enforce ontology‑level access controls using Foundry Organizations, Markings, and object‑level permissions.
  • Define and maintain dataset‑to‑ontology lineage standards with clear ownership and stewardship.
  • Lead regular ontology health reviews to identify unused objects, broken relationships, stale datasets, or permission misconfigurations.
  • Chair or participate in cross‑functional ontology governance reviews to resolve conflicts and align stakeholders.

Data Quality & Pipeline Integration

  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure backing datasets meet quality, freshness, and integrity standards before syncing to the ontology.
  • Establish ontology‑level data quality expectations, including property completeness and referential integrity across link types.
  • Guide teams on ontology sync configurations, incremental pipelines, indexing strategies, and performance optimization at scale.

Security & Compliance

  • Partner with Information Security to ensure ontology modeling and access controls meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct periodic audits of ontology permissions, actions, and access patterns; remediate findings and report risks appropriately.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data modeling, platform architecture, or similar roles.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on Palantir Foundry experience with a strong focus on the Ontology layer.
  • Deep expertise in Foundry ontology constructs, including object types, link types, Actions, interfaces, ontology sync configurations, and the Ontology SDK.
  • Strong proficiency with Foundry transforms (PySpark, SQL) and a clear understanding of how backing datasets flow into the ontology.
  • Proven success designing and governing enterprise‑scale ontologies supporting multiple downstream applications.
  • Experience with ontology‑level permissions, including Organizations, Markings, restricted properties, and object‑level security.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex ontology decisions in clear business terms.

Why This Role

This role offers the opportunity to own and shape the semantic foundation that powers analytics, applications, and AI decision‑making across the enterprise. You’ll operate at the architectural level, influencing how data is understood, governed, and acted upon at scale.
