Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Communications Technician to provide national telecommunications field support across a large geographic area. This role requires independence, strong technical skills, and the ability to support both day-to-day operations and project initiatives. The position includes hands-on system installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and 24/7 on-call support, as well as training and collaboration with field operations personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Avaya communications equipment, including CM, Session Manager, System Manager, G430/G450 media gateways, and voicemail systems.
- Support and train field operations personnel on telecommunications systems.
- Provide direct support for projects, system upgrades, and preventative maintenance activities.
- Lead and oversee local contractors in the installation and maintenance of telecom systems.
- Act as a liaison between field operations and IT teams to ensure reliable communication systems.
- Collaborate with carrier services on the installation, provisioning, and troubleshooting of voice and data networks.
- Maintain compliance with standards and provide feedback to the communications engineering team.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical systems.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics or 7+ years of equivalent field experience required.
- 7+ years of experience installing and maintaining Avaya telecommunications systems.
- Experience using test equipment and software tools to support Avaya systems in the field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Network certification (e.g., CCNA) preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external vendors.
- Physical ability to work outdoors and safely operate a motor vehicle.
