A growing enterprise technology organization is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to help drive the evolution of its cloud-based data platform. This role combines technical leadership, stakeholder collaboration, and hands-on engineering to deliver scalable data solutions that support critical business operations, analytics, and decision-making. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly with business leaders and technical teams to identify data needs, prioritize initiatives, and develop high-quality data products that generate measurable business value.

What You'll Do

Lead Data Product Strategy

• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to define data product vision, priorities, and success criteria.
• Manage and refine a roadmap of data initiatives, balancing competing priorities across multiple teams.
• Translate business objectives into actionable technical requirements, user stories, and delivery plans.
• Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with data governance teams to support compliance, metadata management, and data quality initiatives.

Drive Business-Focused Data Solutions

• Develop a strong understanding of operational processes and data-driven business challenges.
• Identify opportunities to improve data accessibility, reporting capabilities, and decision support.
• Recommend scalable solutions that align with long-term technology and business objectives.
• Provide strategic input into future-state architecture and platform enhancements.

Build and Optimize Data Pipelines

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native data pipelines supporting both batch and real-time processing.
• Create scalable data integration solutions that ingest, transform, and deliver information from diverse sources.
• Develop and maintain logical and physical data models for analytics and operational use cases.
• Implement monitoring, validation, and performance optimization practices to ensure reliable data delivery.
• Support API integrations and connectivity with internal and external platforms.

Promote Engineering Excellence

• Participate in architectural reviews, Agile ceremonies, and technical design discussions.
• Contribute to best practices around automation, source control, CI/CD, and cloud engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot data pipeline issues and drive root-cause analysis for production incidents.
• Help mentor colleagues and promote knowledge sharing within the data engineering community.

Qualifications

Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
• 5+ years of experience designing and supporting cloud-based data solutions using platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Python and SQL.
• Experience developing ETL/ELT processes, orchestration workflows, and system integrations.
• Proven expertise in data modeling, metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks.
• Demonstrated success partnering with business stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize work, and deliver data-driven solutions.

Preferred Experience

• Background supporting organizations within commodity markets, utilities, energy operations, industrial environments, asset-intensive businesses, or related sectors.
• Exposure to enterprise data governance programs and modern cloud data architectures.
• Experience supporting analytics and reporting initiatives through scalable data platforms.
