Director, General Manager
Location: Fremont, CA / San Martin, CA (Northern California Region)
The Opportunity
Project sites don’t wait. Crews need workspace and secure storage on the ground before the first shovel hits dirt — and they need it where the work is, when the work is. That’s our business: getting it there, keeping it running, and making the numbers work.
We’re a North American leader in temporary space and portable storage solutions, with a footprint across the United States, Canada, and Mexico serving construction, energy, industrial, and commercial customers. Our Northern California Region is hiring a Director, General Manager to own the P&L, lead the field operation, and build the team.
The Role
Reporting to the SVP, General Manager, you’ll sit on the Region leadership team and partner with functional leaders across the Division to execute on company objectives. You own commercial growth, operational execution, and talent development for the Region.
Your P&L spans multiple MSAs and runs $25M to $60M in annual revenue across all business lines. Your scorecard is balanced — safety, customer service, employee engagement, and operational metrics — with a heavy emphasis on Revenue, EBITDA, and profitability targets.
What You’ll Own
• Grow Region revenue and market penetration across every business line
• Run the P&L and drive profitability against plan
• Lead the field sales organization through performance management and support programs to hit sales targets
• Develop and execute the Region’s growth strategy
• Oversee branch operations managers responsible for fleet maintenance, direct labor and material planning, and safety performance
• Direct transportation and logistics operations — potentially including field service managers — to ensure safe, efficient, profitable fulfillment of solutions
• Lead local customer service operations and process improvements to lift customer satisfaction and net promoter scores
• Coach employees across every function and drive employee engagement and employee NPS
• Actively develop leaders inside the Region and build a bench for general management seats
• Read the market and feed intelligence back to Divisional and Corporate leadership to shape commercial strategy
• Support planning, forecasting, competitive intelligence, national account customers, operational best-practice sharing, and regulatory/legal/compliance matters
What We’re Looking For
Required
• B.S. in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related business field — or equivalent years of experience
• 8+ years in progressively responsible Business Unit Management roles
• Ability to travel 25%, primarily within the Region with occasional Division and company-wide meetings
Preferred
• Demonstrated success managing a P&L of at least $5M
• Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field
• Experience working closely with sales teams to increase productivity and hit targets
• Leadership across decentralized, branch-based operating networks
• Background leading industrial transportation and logistics services
• Network in industrial and business services and/or construction services
• Experience in a rental or leasing model — construction equipment, car/truck leasing, logistics, transportation, or other industrial services
• Comfort managing multiple priorities in a matrixed organization
• Track record of accuracy, quality improvement, and applying feedback to performance
• Strong customer presentation and communication skills
• Experience operating inside a matrixed structure
