Director of Construction – Water/Wastewater

Overview
This is a key role for a 60 year old firm that has grown from $500M to $3B in revenue over the past 15 years and continues to add large-scale projects nationwide.
Lead construction execution across a high-growth portfolio of municipal water and wastewater treatment projects. This is a senior leadership position responsible for multi-project performance, site teams, and the development of future leaders.
You’ll oversee project delivery from preconstruction through closeout. You’ll directly manage construction leads, support project managers, and serve as an escalation point on technical, financial, and personnel matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide the development and assignment of PMs, superintendents, and field teams across multiple active water/wastewater projects
- Participate in early pursuit and preconstruction phases
- Monitor design coordination and support the kickoff and planning of construction operations
- Validate detailed cost estimates, coding, buyout strategy, and procurement approach
- Review construction drawings, owner change orders, and risk scenarios
- Recommend construction techniques, self-perform strategies, staffing approaches, and resolve subcontractor and site issues
- Oversee insurance enforcement, subguard policy, and securing special bond insurance coverage and compliance
- Audit project cost performance and drive corrective actions for overruns
- Conduct site inspections to confirm quality, safety, and schedule adherence
- Own the close-out of projects
- Direct the career growth of Site Superintendents, PMs and APMs, ensuring long-term talent bench strength
Ideal Candidate
- 10+ years of experience leading Industrial water/wastewater facility construction, design, management
- Background in municipal or industrial treatment facilities preferred
- Strong knowledge of collaborative delivery (CMAR, CMGC, or Design-Build)
- Skilled in estimating, project financials, employee relations, and field operations
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
