Our client, a highly regarded nonprofit academic institution, is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead HR strategy and operations across its campus. This hands-on leadership role partners with senior executives, faculty, staff, and union representatives to create and maintain a thriving, compliant, and mission-driven work environment. Supervises a team of two.
The successful candidate will bring a proven track record in academic settings, labor relations/union negotiations, and Title IX compliance, with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day HR management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of HR operations, including policy development, compliance, benefits administration, and employee lifecycle management.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding efforts in partnership with hiring managers to attract and retain top talent.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee relations, guiding progressive discipline, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Partner with leadership on union contract negotiations, grievance resolution, and arbitration matters.
- Ensure institutional compliance with Title IX by serving as the Title IX Coordinator and other federal/state employment laws and regulations.
- Direct training and professional development initiatives, including faculty and staff orientation programs.
- Collaborate on campus safety programs and ensure related protocols are implemented effectively.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred.
- 7–10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with at least 2–5 years in a unionized environment.
- Background in academia or nonprofit organizations strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with Title IX compliance and investigations.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to navigate complex employee relations matters with discretion and fairness.

Salary range: $125k - $135k
